2012 Suzuki Gladyus
Hey guys I need a some knowledge.
I am selling a 1972 Mercedes Benz 280S. Some guy asked if I would trade for a 2012 Suzuki Gladyus 650. I am not a motor cycle guy. I don't know anything about them nor do I care. I would be willing to trade at least partially, provided I can sell the bike. He states it has 800 miles, no issues and only needs a battery. What can you tell me about this thing? Value, easy to sell, what should I look for, etc.? Here are some pics he sent. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

The only useful thing I could add is that it looks like the clutch lever is bent. Prolly dropped.
That bike is built on a thin nickel. Not grom cheep, but almost. Take it to a good indy shop for a good once over. It's amazing what a trained eye can find on these bikes.

My trained eye says that the clutch lever is probably not bent. That’s just the general shape they were. A 2012 bike with that few miles will have been neglected. It will need a battery, the fuel drained, an oil change, the brake fluid changed, etc. It will probably start and run with that work, but it might need a few miles put on it with a fuel injector cleaner run through the tank to make it perform as it should.
When new it was an entry-level bike for new riders and was a bit of a hard sell. It’s probably not easier to sell now than when it was new, so I would expect to see the price discounted to reflect that you would have to sell two vehicles now, not just the one you started with. |

I can’t really offer any guidance on value, I don’t follow that particular market at all. You might take a look at eBay and other sites to see what those bikes are actually selling for. Keep in mind the cost of the service work needed, not to mention the hassle of getting it to a dealer or other shop in non-running condition. It will be a couple months before the used car bike market wakes up again for the year, and it might take a while to sell, so you might ponder whether it’s worth it to you to screw with it.
It’s likely that the seller is offering it as a trade simply because he doesn’t want to screw with selling it either. |

Unless you want the motorbike, I’d pass on the partial trade. That’s not a ‘special’ bike at all, and even though miles are low, there’s little demand for such a machine. Quick sale price is probably under $1k for that. Used motorcycles are cheaper than dirt. For a max of about $3k, you can find almost anything you could ever want, including “premium” models from BMW, Ducati, etc.

I agree with Jwasbury. Why trade the car for something that is questionable at best and may be a pain to resell? I'd pass. A bike that old with only 800 miles needs more than just a battery as mentioned earlier. The tires will also be toast from age.

Just to add - the Gladius is pretty unpopular. It replaced the Suzuki SV650 which was beloved and fans never accepted it due to the changes to its looks (there are still unsold 2015s on dealer lots; Suzuki dropped the Gladius/SFV650 designation and updated it to the resemble SV650 again.

I have bought, sold, traded for many many cars and bikes, but I NEVER took anything I wouldn't like sitting around for a year or so. It always had to be something I wouldn't be offended seeing every day, and of course I thought I could make a buck on. if it isn't something you like don't do it

If the bike were that easy to sell it would have sold by now and he'd be offering you cash for the Benz.

That bike is worth next to nothing, regardless of mileage. Hard pass.
Gladius? Really? Can we at least hope the guy who named this weak Monster clone got fired for that name.
