JD lawn tractor mower deck question...

Purchased an older G110 w/ a 54" deck for my dad several months ago (great condition, < 300 hrs), and it's been fantastic. I've mowed his lawn a handful of times when he couldn't...I did good...thanks to this board....great mower ! Found an approx. 4" diameter "knock out" from the top of the deck (appears to be the access point to replace pulley), that was held in place with 4 itty-bitty tabs...now broken. There are four slots in the edge of the 4" disc....appears to be for the purpose of reattaching? I've done a few searches, and can't find any parts diagrams, or info, so figured I'd consult the braintrust....thanks!

edited....it might not have been a 54 ft deck....

Thanks Steve, didn't see the second link you found....it's off of part #3 on the parts diagram...the 5" knockout seen at the bottom...you can even see the "guaranteed to break" tabs . Looks like (with the 4 slots in the disc), that it's supposed to reattach...but how?

I'm sure one of the Deere gurus will see this and chime in....

Here's a couple...

Not sure why the 5" knockout is even stamped there into the plate....how hard is it to remove two bolts and take the cover off?

OK, never noticed before, but just checked. I have that plate in the cover on the right side of the deck.

Cover is easy to remove with the 10mm bolts.....I do every year to clean out debris and grease the spindle bearing.....IF tabs broken, i'd just epoxy it in place and go mow....

Great mower by the way....Mine under 300 hrs also....Will last you a lifetime...

I've noticed a lot of debris collects under the covers on both sides....I blow them out after I mow. I'm getting ready to service the deck.....I'll just JB Weld it back from the bottom side of the cover...stupid, dinky, tabs. For now....duct tape covers the pulley hole .

Still curious about the purpose of the hole. Gotta be more than access...who would knock that out instead of removing two cover bolts.

Why not fab one up out of 1/8" Aluminum sheet?

'cause my duct tape repair would make a redneck proud and last a loooong time

Were it my dad's old (newer than the JD however) POS Cub Cadet... I'd call it done...

I just need to tack the pretty, YELLOW disc back in place....no need to fab one. It's a Deere....so it's just gotta match .

The knockout is there for accessories. There is a power flow attachment that uses a taller double pulley that extends through that opening, on the left side to drive a blower, to create more airflow for the bagger system.

^^^^ Makes sense....I was already having mental pictures of what my grandfather would have rigged up with a double pulley...

A double-wide Deere

RV caulk, a REAL weld, or the epoxy someone mentioned.....that flexes?

Thanks...

Most of us Deere owners remove the covers from the deck . Regardless of which deck the covers hold debris , then the debris gets wet and then rust starts . It happens all the time ! And yes that cover is to allow a double height pulley to power a blower for a bagger .

Or...if you want to keep it looking original...the whole shield with the knock-out is $13.77 del to your local JD dealership. (pt#GX22646)

Doh....I had searched for a replacement cover for just the hole...when I no longer needed a double-wide. With JD prices, I waz skeered to think of that....

You win a free snapper....thanks
