Capabilities better than your ability or the inverse?

Cars, motorcycles, boats, aircraft, "company"...which do you prefer and does that say anything about you?

I prefer equal or lesser capable machines. When its more they become unnecessary overkill and start to become useless not being used to full potential. For example i have a nice old gravely rear engine tractor im selling because its just overkill. I can get away with a cheap rider just as well. Keeping the gravely around is just taking up money and space that can be used on something else that would be more usefull to me. Like a dirtbike. But not too big a dirtbike or the same would hold true. I wouldnt need a 500cc to putter around the woods at 10mph i can have just as much or more fun on a 125 because it will actually fit me and the place I ride. In my younger days maybe I wanted something bigger. Like a teenager wanting a lamborghini for his first car.

I have a 250 dirtbike that I almost traded for a 125 with electric start, i'm not a speed demon, and also like cruising treelines, and farm lanes. We had a 21 runabout boat with a 140 Mercruiser that was fun, but a real hassle to take the family out, and keep everyone entertained (I felt like it was my responsibility). When I retire, I will be looking for a 14" v-hull on a trailer, with a 55 minn kota to do some fishing.

My DD car is a 2004 Mustang GT convertible, triple black with a few motor mods, and 4.10 gears...it has rust, and has never been in a car show. I'm not afraid to walk away from it in a parking lot, and don't stress about being dirty, and less than perfect.

I have a 303hp Boxster S and it's great. If I had more money to spend on a car would I have something like a GT4 or GT3, yeah, almost definitely. I don't think it's a problem to have something that's a bit more capable than you are. It can challenge you a bit and hopefully, if you're smart and don't WAY over do it, have enough capability to save you if you over do it by a little bit because of the higher limits.

If I came into ridiculous money, would I have a CGT or McLaren F1 or Koenigsegg? Absolutely, but I would be VERY careful and would go get lots of training. If I had ridiculous money, I could pay for something like a week or two at Bondurant and a week or two at the Porsche Driving Experience and a week or two someplace else, and then maybe a week on the 'Ring with Mr Stuck giving me pointers.

If I had "ridiculous money", I would go vintage racing with classic Fords in a big rig hauler, and drive sensible (new GT350, King Ranch F250) cars on the road. I can't ever see a situation that I would want a fragile Italian to drive on the streets.
