Some folks still won't believe it, because they don't want to.

Geneman 03-04-2019 03:47 PM

yes .. exactly sammy... instead they listen to some talking head starlet from hollywood.... whose studies are WAY BETTER i am sure...

LWJ 03-04-2019 04:29 PM

Good news.

Somewhat off topic but do you all think autism rates are increasing? My kid is on the spectrum. I know many that are. Didn't see many when I was growing up.

You likely saw plenty, you just did not recognize it for what it was.

That would be my guess as well.

I would imagine that the increase in awareness and better diagnosis plays a part in that perception.
As do social networking, media/news saturation, and the interwebs in general I'm sure.

There seems to be a lot of stuff that is more prevalent today than when I was growing up...

And then you get scholars like this one. From my state, embarrassing.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/arizona-lawmaker-calls-mandatory-measles-vaccine-communist-amid-fight-control-n978121

I did not realize good citizenship, which is looking out for your neighbors, was communist.

I agree about not recognizing things. Feedback is powerful.

I'm a GM for a company that works with kiddos on the spectrum. 3 or 4 years ago it was 1 in 88 diagnosed the last number i saw recently was 1 in 59.

I believe this as well, with what I know now I think a good buddy of mine in high school was on the spectrum. Lots of people on the spectrum are very "high functioning" but only come across as socially awkward.

cstreit 03-04-2019 06:55 PM

"Spectrum" is the new ADHD.

Any socially awkward smart kid has it now...

Not saying their aren't legit diagnosis, but its now a catch-all.

Really? who do you "think" paid for it?

There is a LOT of dough in special needs kids.
