Brake fluid flush today. Our support for Ukraine demonstrated by our choice in shocks! ;)

Ukraine shock absorbers - cool. Nice touch.

I Fix-It'ed up the neighbors woods by destroying what was left of a studebaker. It pretty much fell to pieces with a little tug.

Received a few new parts today.....will get the rest of what I need by Tuesday next week. In the meantime I tidyed up the garage a little - did a little re-organizing - and aired up the tub tyres in preparation. Nothing like having a good brakes! :)

Decided to change the oil in my wife's CR-V yesterday. Should have used a second layer of 2x4's to get just a tad higher off the ground. She doesn't like me using my jack when she's not home and being the honest guy I am I don't use it. Sure is nice having Mobil 1 delivered to my door cheaper than I can buy it anywhere locally. |
Thanks Scott;) I rebuilt the stock 022, going to give it a whirl to start with, also rebuilt the generator fields, brushes and bearings. Running Weber 40 IDF;s with 32mm vents and jets to support the displacement. Really looking forward to driving it again, I'm embarrassed to say how long it's been;)

I would HIGHLY recommend getting it on a 'rolling road' dyno to sniff it to see how the jetting is working out. It made a world of difference to my car and that was after Benton had tuned it. Seat of the pants is close, but that only counts in hand grenades.

Sent you a PM Steve.

Steve F, that just looks cool. I LOVE that car color, and the fresh installation looks just right.
Well done! I'm jealous! |

So today I picked up a train I won on the GW site. Engine, four cars, track and transformer too, along with a nice set of the good LGB wire hookups to the track.
Had fun just hosing the cars off to clean them up. They weren't that bad but my grandkids will be handling these so I wanted them fairly clean. Got it home and unpacked it, hooked it up and it ran like a top. I can live with that. More rolling stock added to the inventory. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1653606621.JPG |
^^^ Very cool, Scott - nice score! Your grandkids are lucky to have such a caring grandfather.
Do you have a caboose - or is that something you'd even want to acquire? It's a nice assortment - love the Esso tank car! |
You had to mention the caboose...I missed a really nice one yesterday as I didn't want to incur the wrath of my wife by bidding on it. I have a couple of cabooses, but the one I missed was a nice double truck US style one. We now have two Chiquita cars and two Esso tankers.
That last car is a very heavy duty car I'm thinking will make a good platform for my camera for those 'on train' videos. |
behold.... SKY CRANE!!!!!!!
(sorta). It's that beautiful moment when you realize you have so much crap, you can combine it in different ways to come up with something completely new, and strangely practical. Take that ladders!!!!! This thing is tops for being able to back over flower beds and being able to get at painting/powerwashing the house. I will be working on SUPER SKY CRANE in the future- stay tuned! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1653949176.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1653949176.JPG |

Just plugging away on the E28. When I bought this car there was evidence of past episodes of a wet trunk. My big concern was did the sound deadener trap water and rust out the trunk floor? Only one way to find out; I pried up all the factory material - it's this weird super-dense asphalt stuff that weighed 50 pounds (seriously, I weighed it). To my relief, the floor is solid. I made some minor repairs, wire-brushed what little surface rust there was and put down a layer of POR15 (just in case). Today I finally had a sunny enough free day to cut and stick the fake dynamat.
Scrubbed the carpet pieces and they're hanging on a clothesline in the sun. I don't know when or if this car will ever be done, but I enjoy making slow progress on something built this well and big enough for me to crawl around in. edit - the seat bulkhead is heavily padded inside the cabin, but I had those two "L" shaped pieces left in the scraps and I just couldn't help myself. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654215478.jpg |
Nice and clean. The way it should be. I like it.

Before and after.

^. That looks great.
A nice place to work, it looks like, too. I think you have more invested in wishbones, uprights, spindles and brakes than I have budgeted for my whole E28 refresh! |
At my friends shop, the car was built in 87' and raced in IMSA GTO and Trans Am.
We are just refreshing it getting it ready for the Monterey Reunion in August. :) https://www.bryansracing.com/ Quote:

Behold SKY BUCKET 2.0!!!!!
Screw the garden tractor mounting. I needed more height. Random SUV did the trick. Powerwashing success. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654451750.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654451750.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1654451803.JPG This gives me an idea for a photoshoot. Me, on top of the SUV in skybucket, donning a safari hat, with my wildlife photography gear, with a camo-decked super zoom lense perched high above taking pictures of the neighbor's treacherous teacup poodle down below (as they go for their daily walk). Vicious beast. David Attenborough will narrate. The poodle bites. The poodle chooses. |
Sky bucket #9 :D

Clearly, I have not pushed the envelope enough!!!!!:D

Time to put it all together.
Rebuilt Period correct 23 degree 358 with only Dyno time. New belts, for safety new swedged and pressure tested oil and fuel lines, new clutch and T/O bearing. All Original parts retained for historic racing, like the air box, valve covers, headers, rebuilt steering box, rebuilt brake calipers, original suspension, bbs basket weave wheels, no changes made to modernize or improve performance. Next race in 2 months at the Monterey Reunion. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655309736.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655309749.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655309767.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655309780.jpg |
Completing a deck/ stair rebuild to match a TREX deck rebuild on the side if the house. Old 4' x 4' platform expanded to 6' x 6'. Project timing not good at it has been in the high 90's here in Atlanta. Fortunately the back patio is shaded most of the day.
Old: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655472357.jpg New: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655472978.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655472357.jpg Old stair stringers rested on pavers that had settled and were out of level and bottom post was wobbly. Replaced one rotted stringer, poured a level concrete base for and boxed in the bottom tread to stiffen the post. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655472357.jpg To match this: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655473119.jpg |
^^ Very nice, Mark! This heat and humidity really takes it out of you! I feel like I'm running about 50% efficiency right now with my outdoor projects.....maybe even less! :D
|
Boxing the stringers looks like a great solution I never would have thought of! I have the same issue and this looks like a winner!

Replaced my irrigation timer. The old one was still working - but not as well as it should be. I really like these new ESP-TM2's though.......

We use one of these to run 2 zones on one wire if you every have that problem. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655572556.jpg |

I've seen those before but never had to use one. Definitely when the time comes, check out these Rainbird ESP-TM2 clocks. They have a weatherproof cabinet so can be used indoor or outdoor. Comes with a built in power cord but also easy to hard wire if desired. Not expensive either! |
Baz will hopefully like this. My wife usually does the garden work but since she's out in the desert on baby watch the job fell into my lap. we have a flower bed that is wild flower dedicated. Time to take out the old and let the new grow in.

Looking good Scott. :)
Just got over Covid now ready to start scratching at the earth too. :) Our (drought tolerant) Plumerias are starting to bloom. Several bare naked ladies blooming too. ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655574989.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655575009.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655575024.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1655575050.jpg |
Your gardens are looking fantastic Scott and Ted!
I used to think the Hibiscus flower was the most photogenic but you know one could easily make the same statement about the Plumeria flower! A girl I dated here for a while went into business for herself and has the Plumeria flower as part of her logo. |
