Still more splitting & cutting to do. I needed more storage, so made another fire wood rack out of scrap I had around here.

Started replacing the archaic radio in my C6. It took more time unhooking the wiring to the seat heaters, cig lighter, and hazard switch.
I have to wire in an interface so the steering wheel controls will still work

Great quote and reminds me of so many who post in this thread:

I've been inserting LED light fixtures into PVC pieces, used as a housing for the lamp, for a while now.

They have all been used as uplights - shining upwards into a palm trunk/canopy.

The other day I got the idea to insert the lamps into both ends....so one can shine up and the other down.

When designing landscape lighting - many times one tries to balance out uplighting with downlighting anyway.

I get these LED lamps from Amazon - they are color changing and can be set to any color along with various settings. I usually just set it on one color and leave it that way.

Find the right diameter pipe, cut some pieces, drill out an opening for the wires, spray paint to match palm trunk (brown), insert lamps, seal with silicone, and you are set to install.

I finished 4 of them tonight and will install tomorrow and report back with working pics.

Not sure how I will attach them yet but will think of something.....

Is the c6 radio also the head for your climate control?

No, i unhooked the HVAC control just to gain more access to the wiring

Threw the light fixture up on the trunk of one of my Queen Sagos using a bungee cord just to test it out and see how it looked. So far I like what I see. Not sure how difficult it will be to make one lamp one color and the other another. So far both seem to react the same even when I put the nose of the remote right on the lamp lens on one of the fixtures. Will have to play around more with it.

Nice job, I've been looking for some new LV LED hockey puck size lights.
I prefer a color filter as opposed to plain white lighting in the garden.
After 10 years I only have one left that lights my 30 foot tall queen palm.
Since the sprinklers have been off all winter needed to readjust 100+ drip irrigation emitters.
Pool is 86, outside temp 82, this weekend is the first swim of the season.

Thanks, Ted! That triple trunk looks like an Alexander Palm, Archontophoenix alexandrae. One of my favs. I have about 6 of them here and 4 of the other species, Archontophoenix cunninghamiana - the Bangalow or Piccabeen Palm.

Sounds like you have some work to do. here as well. The two hurricanes we had plus early freezes in December took it's toll on a lot but good news is much is in recovery and we have a whole growing season ahead.

On the lighting - I love it. I have a ton of lighting already but there's much room for improvement. Hard to beat low-voltage LED stuff - so easy to spice in whatever you want and change it out as needed.

These latest LEDs I used came from Amazon. A 16 pack for $143: CLICK

Using sections of PVC pipe for a housing has worked out great! I feel I'm still at a very early design stage and will continue to make improvements with time. It's a lot of fun to play with this stuff.

Enjoy your swim today - perfect temps! SmileWavy

Spent two hours under my Tundra looking for a clunk that was getting louder. (Brushed some rust off too cause it’s a Canadian salt Toyota)
Pulled the tool box out of the back seat and took off the 75lb tonne cover.
Then I reach in and find a loose tie down.

Our 7 month old toy Aussiedoodle, Daisy decide that she liked chewing up the edge of the carpet where a hallway meets the living room and the carpet meets up with hardwood. The carpet was folded under making a nice transition to the hardwood. So, anyway with the edge of the carpet chewed up, I had to add a hardwood transition piece to cover the edge of the carpet. Now I will stain it to match the floor.
We are considering reflooring the entire house but this will do for now. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dce661da0e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...fabbbfe281.jpg

Tried to fire up the old Craftsman mower the other day, but no joy. It has a 21hp V twin with the fuel tank under the seat. Determined there was no gas getting to the carb, so a trip to town secured a new fuel pump. That was when I realized the fluid being pumped was not gasoline, but water. The clear plastic over the gauge in the gas cap was missing a piece, which had admitted water to the tank. Drained all the water, added methyl hydrate, cleaned the carb and what do you know? It fired right up. Despite the rumors of old B&S engines being able to run on just about anything, apparently they draw the line at water.

Replaced all of the spinny things in a Samsung dryer (but the drum or motor) - in today's world of non-repairability I was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty easy and that service manuals were easily found online. Now the spinny things are mostly silent and far less eager to become breaky once-spinny things.

Also I'm amused that due to my recent/temporarily jacked up back and neck Mrs mjohson did most of the work. As she's a chemical engineer usually we just rely on her for plumbing (that's basically what ChEs do, right?) but she did good mechanical work. Perhaps she has earned her apprentice mechanical merit badge...

Jolly Amaranto 04-23-2023 02:53 PM

Finally finished up re-plumbing my entire house from galvanized steel pipe to PEX. The house is about 40 years old and the old pipe was springing leaks all over the place. Managed to not make too many holes in the walls, ceilings and floors to get it done. Getting real good at drywall repair. I used the old pipe to fish the new PEX through the walls by attaching the PEX to one end and pull the galvanized pipe through the wall a few feet at a time and sawing it off piece by piece with metal cutting blade in a sawzall. Fortunately there were no unions hiding in the wall that could not go through the holes in the studs.

porsche930dude 04-23-2023 03:59 PM

Speaking of plumbing. We changed the water filter today and the new filter seemed to be floating and not sealing. After much discussion we ended up putting a coned O ring for drainpipe in the bottom to take up the space and it solved the dilema. During all that we kind flushed out the line without the filter housing on and so much brown and purple stuff came out from the pressure tank side. It must have just backed up through the line from filter. Being flushed out fast blew it out rather running slow through the filter. So thats something ill be doing every time the filter gets changed.

Replaced the front hood struts on the 330.

Then, thought of ways of adding ventilation through the hood, to keep things cool.

Please tell me that selector isn't where you have to turn around to reach it..... if it is... I hear the left rudder can be a solid brace for the torso twist/ reach around.

GH85Carrera 04-24-2023 12:40 PM

Getting my 911 ready for the 3,000 mile summer trip. I change the brake fluid every spring, for the last 27 years, so that was first up. New ATE Type 200, done.

Next the fuel filter had 20,000 miles so time for a new filter. After 27 years of ownership there is very little I can blame on previous owners. One of them is the fuel filter lower fitting. I am pretty sure the Terminator or a gorilla tighten up the fitting. I try every time, and it will not budge. I never remembered to get to it with the engine out. So I have to just remove the adapter off the bottom of the new one, and rotate the filter off of the line connection. It works and does not leak.

Next up in an oil change. All easy tasks with the car up on my scissor lift. Just a few more regular maintenance items before the trip to Palm Springs.

Oh yea, I will have to replace the AC compressor and Receiver Dryer. The compressor nose seal is throwing oil. I will for sure need max AC in Palm Springs in June. The compressor has been on there since 2008 and 70,000 miles. This will be the first time I have had to touch it since then. It lives a hard life. I never just roll the windows down, and my sunroof has been opened 3 times since I bought the car. So the heater or the AC is on if I am driving it, except on track.

Odometer on th3 '89 Golf cab quit last fall. This afternoon I reviewed the how to info I got last year and had at it. One broken (and mended) speedometer needle later I couldn't find the fault. It was while I was re-installing the cluster I realized the speedometer cable had not been properly engaged since last time I had the dash out.
I hate making work for myself.
At least everything seems to work now.

Oh heck no!!!!! This is a VariEze, so the valve lever is directly under my right forearm. Thus, when running on the fuselage tank, the lever is straight up and there is no way in the known universe I can say….” I didn’t know I was running in my reserve tank”

The LongEZ fuel selector by design, is between your knees and it’s a matter of just reaching down and switching tanks. The JD crash was a tragedy that was 100% preventable. It still doesn’t change the outcome and the number one reason you don’t deviate that drastically from the plans.

Didn’t get much done on this POS fuel line disaster other than purchasing some misc fittings to make a rudimentary template for a new Teflon SS braided with crimped ends. The next step is to seat the crimped fittings onto the 3/8” aluminum tank lines.

Started phase two of the gutter guard project - the second story gutters. Its all about ladder safety. Even in my younger days I never felt comfortable transitioning from ladder to roof so I picked up a pair of Werner WalkThru's and they are game changers. Along with the standoff/stabilizer and tying off the lower rung to the deck post this set up is rock solid. I'll be able to install the gutter guards above the porch by standing on the lower roof but when I mover around the side I'll be on a ladder approx 20ft with a 28" extended standoff from the house to reach gutters. Not looking forward to that. And, I think I'm going to have to set up a plank from the lower roof section to a ladder support in order to reach the to corner guards

Neighbor had a bit of an emergency with a leaking hose bib and her well water went low and murky. It was soldered on so i had to drain the system and do the bread trick to get it to stop dripping to solder the new fittings. There was nothing behind the wall to screw it to so I had to jam some wood through the little hole and got one screw to grab. It went well enough

This project has gone way too long for me. Life got in the way, but Im back on it.

Rear wheel bearing in a 930 is a test of my mechanical ability but I am hopefull I am going to win soon.

new bearing races and control arm busings pressed in, everything cleaned and painted, now to press back together and set end play.

This project has had me buy a press, a dial indicator, 3/4 drive breaker and socket, several wierd bits of material for fixturing from mc-master car, and has nearly cost my sanity. I need a victory!

I've been working the last few weeks laying bricks and doing concrete work at my OHD to my shop. I've been using the "dry" method of installing concrete. I saw a few videos on YouTube and it makes the process for small jobs much easier then mixing/pouring and finishing as you typically would using bags of redi-mix.
1. Form it as you would any job.
2. Place rebar if needed.
3. Compact and wet the ground surface
4. Open the bags and spread it around. Each squire in the pic needed 3 1/2 60# bags.
5. Screed it off and backfill any low spots.
6. Use an edge tool to add that slight radius to the edges.
This is where things get different:
7. Take a standard 12 inch paint roller with a low nap roller and go over the surface several times until smooth. Keep going until you get the finish you like. This is all WITHOUT adding any water. The surface is concrete dust and sand so be carful with it. You touch it and it will show up.
8. Get a hose attachment that gives you a fine fog and start watering it down. The water will be drawn into the concrete. Do this for about 10 minutes wait 15 minutes and do it again every 15 for about 2 hours. DON"T touch it and don't change the hose setting or you'll wash off the top surface.
9. Keep the dog off of it for about 6 hours while it sets up and wait overnight and you can walk on it.

Advantages: No mixing and shoveling wet concrete, no working the surface of wet concrete to get it smooth, very little clean up, and use only use what you need.

I had used bricks left over from a planter wall to use as a border. My next row will be three squares wide to mix it up a bit. Used bricks also allow you not to be perfect with joints.
