The tongue weight shown above looks a little heavy to my eyes. Probably wrong. Double check to be safe.
(and nice setup btw)

Agree John the trailer is resting on the ground, not connected to the truck in the photo.
30 inch extension and 1000lb weight distribution hitch were not installed in the original photo. :)

We have an old Heywood-Wakefield piece of cabinetry that my wife insists on putting plants on and watering said plants too.
Stuff happens.
So, I get to fix it.
Right now I haven't done anything other than rub the top with some Howard's Restorer stuff that says it doesn't remove the original finish. The top is fairly smooth now after a good rubbing with 0000 steel wool.
It still looks like it has patina though.
She doesn't want it 'shiny' but would like it smooth to the touch.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

I'd like to take my little Mega Mouse sander to it and get it down to bare wood on the top only and put some new finish of some sort on it. Not shiny but a satin look.

I really love the look of this piece. It is usually filled with her Christmas china and Waterford collection.

A little maintenance on the Toyota pickup. Had a little scare off the beaten track a couple of weeks ago so time for a new starter, a couple of new relays in the spares box and a new, 70 amp alternator to replace the original (60 amps, 170000 miles.) Plus a new idler pulley bearing that was starting to tell me all about its hard, grueling existence in a whiney, screechy way.

(Edit, Toyota is shameless at pricing some 22RE parts. I opted to buy a 15 dollar bearing when I saw this nonsense). :)

I had a brake light out on Pepper so I figured it was a good opportunity to switch to LEDs.

Last little project, simple but annoying, the arm pad on my Human Touch Perfect Chair was loose. Mind you, I have not worked on one or even assembled a Zero Gravity chair since we closed the stores in 2013.
Well, none of the screws you could see were loose, then I remembered that I probably had to remove the pad from the armrest. And of course the Allen bolts are standards. Well, sure enough, once I got the pad off, there were 2 Allen bolts holding the plate the the arm pad mounts too were very loose. A few quick turns and reassemble and back the way it should be. BTW, these are great chairs and I highly recommend them. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1687814257.jpg

If you look at post 1989, you will see his camper shell extends beyond the bed of the truck. Okay in a straight line, but you need to be able to turn.

Kind of shark-like with those colors and the 4 louvers in the cowl!

(first world problems)
Bought a cheap tv a few years ago. It started flashing "No signal", then sometimes picture would return, then "Resolution not supported" with BSOD. Occasional random flashes in the middle of movies then normal after 10 seconds. It would be fine for hours and weeks but if rewinded or paused would go into the loop again. Two different DVD players and same result.
Drove me nuts.
It was okay 80% of the time. Maybe this monitor wasn't made for tv?

Tried every single resolution setting possible. Some would pulse the brightness. Tried off/on and switching the input select. Unplug to clear memory. Wiggled cords. If I plugged it into the other HDMI port and restarted the tv while the DVD was playing it would work. Then yesterday it started buzzing and gave a 1 second flash every 30 seconds. I was done messing with it. Ready to be recycled.

This tv was defective.
Nope. It was the brand new Belkin HDMI cable I'd purchased at that time.
The one variable not checked. The most non-obvious thing to the symptoms.
Different cable.
Works fine today.

rockfan4 06-28-2023 10:36 AM

Last night I added some more cool juice to the AC on the wife's car.
You have to pull the air box to access the low side port. Awesome design.
When pulling the air box, I noticed the bellows leading to the intake is torn, and one of the rubber pieces that holds the bottom is missing. The missing mount may have led to the torn bellows, I don't know. But the stupid bellows is $120 at the dealer, or $66 for a Dorman at ********. There's another option on eBay for under $20, I'm thinking of trying one of those first, can't be any worse than the Dorman one.

If it continues to be a problem....look for firmware updates in the menu of your tv.
Some will auto-update...others will not.

rsrguy 06-28-2023 06:47 PM

Thank you Herr O. Does anyone know how to get these damn 930 valve covers to stop leaking!
Got the return tubes replaced on starboard side... but the damn covers still seep. Had the main case supply was loose too, I managed to get it cinched up but we're still getting lovely vapors after a spin.

herr_oberst 06-28-2023 07:05 PM

You should put your valve cover question out on Off Topics as it's own question. I bet there's a lot of people who know who never visit the mechanical side of the forum any more.

I was fortunate enough to get a good set of valve covers that never leaked. I always treated them to new gaskets after every valve job, but I doubt if that's the answer you're looking for.

Ya bugs is killing it with all of that manual rock work, and that sun valley machine is nuts, the guts in those things have always melted my brain just by looking at them!...
The paint is probably doing that anyway.

Yea, I feel over-matched!

I had a 9 day vacation away from home with a kitchen pass. I came home to find the freezer light was non functional, (replaced a bulb) the bedroom overhead light did not work, the light switch is one of the illuminated type, and it has failed, so replace that, and a part of the central vacuum broke off, and got that back on. Phew, good to be back home, but pretty simple tasks compared to some on this thread.

rsrguy 06-30-2023 06:08 AM

The complexity of the task isn't what counts in this thread... it's the brotherhood of the wrench... it's about those of us that choose to have something to show for our time rather than hire it out. Today for instance I'm just a cleaner, as I'm a one man show. Next week I'll be plumbing in more air line to the hangar. For me it's the switch hitting that's hard, I'm task zeroed, I can do any task with laser focus but it's extremely difficult to jump to another task immediately after completing one type of trade, so reading all of your posts helps... bugs helps me get my head around garden work... as well as GA problem solving etc. Its a motivational thread, and I feel bummed when I haven't produced enough to post, but it helps to know other guys are off their cracks getting Schmidt done!:D

Monday I pulled the tranny from my fc because it was walking out of first. Well the gear is half roached so im going to throw parts at it and see if they stick. Also working on my little car again. I mounted the hood ornament i made and did more work on the grill also put on latches and getting the other rear fender mounted. Baby steps

My buddy brought me a harley 125 rapide I pulled sme parts to sell and i might use the frame to build a new bike. In the future. Also found a mower in the trash. The Filter was plugged solid, the flywheel keyway was totally sheared, and the intake was so loose it had gappage. But it still ran ok! Sometimes im amazed how so many things can be totally broken and the thing still works. Also went through some of my hundreds of misc sockets and stuff trying to organize and make sets. I found a few errors a blue/clear craftsman flathead screwdriver and a 1/2" socket with the printing on top. Today Im working on my neighbors subaru front brakes and painted the wheels. But thats booring stuff

Well said and you could have not said it any better!! I know I appreciate the support everyone gives each other on this forum.

We all have something to contribute to the cause. RS helps keep me grounded in what I need to do on the VariEZ. I like to tackle misc jobs that I have before me, but recently I have wanted closure on many as well. This thread has helped me with that, as corny as that may seem. I’m tryin to complete one at a time, many have been pending and I hit the point where I want to get them done. Home, plane, cars.

I can say, my last four days off have allowed me to put the wall to bed. At least this wall…… final and 8th yard of gravel behind the wall is in place. Capstone are all glued down and secure, although the curves in the wall and small end pieces took longer to cut with the mighty skill saw and 7” concrete blade and fit than the entire 132’ of wall I think.

Mrs. Bugs wants me to drop 2-4” of top soil on the gravel so she can plant some low ground cover since I did stub water lines behind the wall for sprinklers. I did purchase a quality filtration cloth to go on top of the gravel and below the top soil if we go that route but I will defer to our resident horticulture expert, Baz on the forum for pointers on the best route to take.

Yesterday, I started cutting around the 12” culvert in preparation to form and pour concrete around the end. I did get a small (8 bags of 80# sack mix) in place at one section. I still need to dig out approximately 6” of dirt in the bottom of the culvert to aid water flow when we get those heavy rains. Before work today, I cleaned up the wall area and started building a block and started the beginning build in a form for when I pour mud at the end of the pipe. I repurposed some old wood pallets for the timber and have more to finish the job, so I don’t feel bad on using it once and tossing it. At todays lumber prices, every bit helps. Still need to work on shaping the area around the pipe’s end and lower form to get it completed prior to the pour. Mud will be going around the form, not in the center area and this is only a test fit of the block at the end of the pipe. I think the amount I will use will justify a trailer rather than buying 80# bags from our local big box store.
