Gettin Sig-gy with it (P220)

Trying my hand at corny staged gun pics. Gave up a 226 to get it. Full stainless.

onewhippedpuppy 03-12-2019 11:28 AM

Nice! Love my P226 and P938.

Tobra 03-12-2019 11:54 AM

I think you are supposed to stick a 12 ga shell in the trigger guard to make it stand up for the photos

unclebilly 03-12-2019 01:16 PM

Here is my original P75. It’s an original P220 in 9mm. Note that it is a SIG, not a Sig Sauer. It also has the heel mag release.

This is my favourite pistol and is a laser.

I changed the military grips on it and the original Swiss officer’s name and badge number were written on tape inside the grip.

Did someone say SIG? Here's a few.

220, 227, 226 Stainless , 226 Legion SAO. Legion is hands down my favorite.

Gettin Sig-gy with it (P220)

Pretty guns fellas! Uncle billy I’m guessing that is a rare piece. Super cool with those grips.

Just left the range headed back to work. Honestly struggled with the gun. Lots of low left every time I tried to shoot on the clock. Very slow and careful it shot well. Sights are combat hold which I don’t like. If I can get better with this gun I’ll invest in the X-ray 3 sights I love and have it set up to shoot just above combat hold.

Going to try the wood grips next. Previous owner has a lighter spring in it and I’m guessing it’s a 17lb. Very light double action. Actually surprised me a couple times.

I shoot my 225a1 a lot better especially when timed. I don’t think it’s a recoil thing as this gun is heavy and recoil is not bad at all. The 220gr ‘syntech’ loads are really soft. Almost 9mm like in this gun. American eagle 230gr got me best results though.

Eric at Pelican Parts 03-12-2019 04:31 PM

Hmmm, are the low left shots from the DA or SA shots?

vash 03-12-2019 04:43 PM

Geez. My 226 quit looking that good a few years as my bros service piece. Still shoots fantastic. But very patina coated.

id10t 03-12-2019 05:34 PM

CDNN has had mags and holsters on sale dirt cheap for SIGs lately...

cdmn?

unclebilly 03-12-2019 05:50 PM

Mine has had trigger work done at some point. I have no idea what or who did it. It was done while it was Swiss military property. The break is crisp but very light.

My friend has the identical piece to mine (we bought them together) and his has a heavier trigger than mine.

onewhippedpuppy 03-12-2019 06:26 PM

Where’s Rick Lee? Did we forget to illuminate the Sig bat signal?:D

berettafan 03-12-2019 06:42 PM

Already sent him a preview!

He's my Sig guru.

A930Rocket 03-12-2019 06:45 PM

Nice spoon.

What does the red tip ammo mean?

Just getting done practicing my guitar.

Here are a few of mine, though I have a few other P220s not shown here. My EDC is a P220R Carry.

Just finished installing the GrayGuns P22xST on my other P226 with the SRT kit. It’s fantastic! Close to the Legion 226 SAO trigger, but not quite the same.

berettafan 03-12-2019 08:27 PM

Red tip is a coating instead of copper jacket. I assume it’s cheaper to make? Very popular amongst the reloading crowd. Those are slightly lighter and slower federal syntech 220gr bullets marketed as competition ammo. Lighter recoil than standard 230 grain.

wildthing 03-12-2019 08:58 PM

I'd post my 226 and 229 but I'm too lazy to take another pic... I love my Sigs but I have my Glock by my bedside... only because in the very remote chance I had to use it, I wouldn't mind that they take the Glock during the investigation.

The possibility of losing a $400 gun vs. $900 gun is my motivation.

onewhippedpuppy 03-13-2019 05:16 AM

Another Sig, probably an older one like Billy’s P75, is on my short list.

For the guys doing trigger jobs are you trying to improve the pull on DA, SA, or both?

photo tips:

- kill that bad "muzzle flash" in the top pic with a diffuser in front of the light (can cut up an old milk jug if you are an el cheapo guy)

- put the guns, ammo on burlap to photo

also, how about some pics of the classic... Browning

You all need to stop posting threads like this. You will kill either me (wife proxy) or my wallet.

Weeell... if'n you are interested, a coworker has a P220 he's rebuilt, tuned, and refinished he was wanting to sell a month or so ago, pretty sure he still has it. IIRC he wanted $550 or $600 for it...

flipper35 03-13-2019 02:45 PM

Have my kids been talking to you? They are the ones that will inherit them!

As much as I would love one it aint in the cards just now.

dmcummins 03-13-2019 03:51 PM

I love my sigs, I have a 226 legion and a 220.

Here is a pic of my 220, this was offhand at 25 yards. And at my age it’s getting hard to see that far.

Anyone picked up one of the new P210s? I’m thinking I need one.

I’ve shot one. It was ‘ok’. The P75 that I have was the military replacement for the P210.

I recall it being quite heavy.

All in good fun - just how far have we come? Here are the two guns from our recent Colt vs. Ruger Single Action thread. Both fired at 25 yards offhand, shooting cast bullets over black powder - the very best 19th century technology:

Best thing about black powder is that you have something to hide behind once the shooting starts. :D

unclebilly 03-13-2019 08:27 PM

This is a really good watch about the development of the P75. I learned crap I never even knew about these.
