(my understanding) ocular migraines are in the brain, and stem from conflicting brain (visual) input. For example, if one eye has an astigmatism, and the other does not, the brain has conflicting input to sort. Read: get better glasses/correction.

I just got a new prescription because of my astigmatism.

Old one was not that old, 18 months maybe?

My astigmatism shifted 7 degrees over the last maybe 6 months so I was actually seeing double in the left eye.

Brain was always trying to compensate and I was having really bad eye strain. Felt like my brain was telling my eyes, hey you on the right, stay put, you on the left turn 7 degrees for the sweet spot.

It got really bad the last month especially at night.

I had one last year when skinning a deer in my garage. I was pretty worried, I thought I was having a stroke. So me being the dummy I am decided to drive to the hospital. Halfway there I thought what if I pass out, my solution was to hit a telephone post and someone would call 911. Turned out it was a ocular migraine, haven't had another.
I didn't have floaters, my vision became pixelated.
I do have floaters all of the time, it is a pain when duck hunting.

I’ve been having that vision in one or both eyes forever, but didn’t realize what it was until reading this thread again.

That, and every few years, something clicks and I have double vision. lots of dock visit, but no resolution.

Edit: just reread the entire thread and saw where I posted the same thing two years ago.

I had this once. I was under extreme pressure at work and basically couldn't see out of one eye. I called it "Scintillation". Sparkles. Yep, Migraine.

I keep a prescription of the anti-migraine meds around, just in case.

I had migraines maybe 2X year in my early teens. Debilitating. Carried Cafergot (caffeine/ergotamine) for years.

Now I get ocular migraines occasionally. No pain. Visual acuities temporarily go to 20/15 followed by scintillating scotoma and monocular visual disturbance, left. Scary at first.

Had the vision sparkly things go on in one of my eyes this evening and remembered reading this thread. I may have had them before but never this pronounced. Got larger and went away within 30 minutes +/- .
Very recently started taking Rosuvastatin for the first time as my cholesterol had taken a jump over the last 6 months and wondering if the ocular migraine symptoms might be attributed to the drug?
59 y/o not overweight non smoker etc...

if you got sparkles/flashes in your peripheral vision and maybe an increase in floaters, that could be due to vitreous detachment, which is pretty normal as we age. I think it could also be more serious, maybe detached retina? I'd go get checked out just to be sure.

Started out slightly off centre of vision in the left eye and looked very much like the photo in the quote above. After time it spread out from centre and became less pronounced and less sharp.

Good advice to get checked out. It has been a while since my eyes were checked.

I get ocular migraines a few times a year. The most common trigger for me is if I eat something that has nitrites in it. I also get them if I am in a dark room and get a sudden flash of light. They usually only last 20 to 30 minutes. Drinking something caffeinated seems to help.

Good to know. Thanks. That is about how long the pixelated colour thing lasted for me too, about 30 minutes. I did have a bit of a headache today but not too bad.

I had a phone conversation with my GP and had stopped after work to an optometrist.

My GP suggested cutting back on the dosage of the statin (rosuvastatin) and to see my optometrist. I was parked outside the optometrists office when my GP called.

Nothing going on in the eye but I had booked a full eye exam for next Tuesday. It has been a while since I have been in for that.

Sometimes an old thread returns to life and its like deja vu.
