I frequently wonder how popular hunting would be if the hunted would shoot back.

How RED are their Necks?

I have shot thousands of dove most with my pops Ate em all.

They are hell to hit. When they are with the wind they can push 60 mph. When they spot you they slam on the air brakes and dive for the ground. If they weren't a challenge I wouldn't hunt them.

I have also shot my fair share of prarie dogs. A colony can get huge and destroy farm and ranch land. Land owners hate them so it is usually easy to get permission. I use a . 223 with scope I try to set up on a rise about a 1/4 mile away. There is a colony about 2 miles from my house that is on city property. They expanded so much the city received permission to poison those that had expanded outside the preserve area. At one time there were over 5,000. Probably a couple of thousand now.

A little trivia about prarie dogs. Pretty much proven that they have a language. Their barks are different for a hawk and a coyote. They can send out a warning or a dinner call. "The tall human that feeds us is here." They will scurry out of their hole and mob ya for a snack.
