MacGuyver over here

Feeling quite accomplished right now. Sitting watching the Giants game and my TV goes out... Still can hear everything just no picture. So I jump on Google and find the flashlight test which is basically hold it very close and see if there is a picture and sure enough, I could make it very faintly.

I then found a YouTube video about changing out the power supply and just as I was about to buy one, another video popped up on how to fix the current one. Figured it couldn't hurt to try and after resoldering 8 TINY connections, I'm back in business. All of this took less than 30 minutes. Even impressed my wife!

This tiny connections we're so damn close, I'm shocked I didn't bridge any of them together. Better lucky than good any day!

Wow, what ever the hell that is would have been helpful last night. I just had my giant (in comparison) harbor freight solder iron and a spool of Radioshack (!) solder. Made it work somehow.

This is my only experience with tiny soldering but it was enough to know I don't want to do it very often!

Awesome!

I have a 55" vizio and had the exact same experience you just had. Solder joints from one board over to another were terrible and the picture just quit, sound kept going.

I actually ordered a new board but when i opened up the TV it was pretty easy to see what the problem was.

FYI if anyone needs TV parts, www.shopjimmy.com is really great about returns and has almost everything.

Yep, that's the exact problem I had. The connector would wobble and you could see several of the pin had no solder on them at all. Strange thing is I wasn't moving the TV or touching it all when it happened. Guess the heat finally caused just enough movement. Hopefully the fix will last. Otherwise been a pretty reliable TV.

I made the same 55" Vizio diagnosis and repair after losing picture.

Weak solder between 2 boards with visible movement.
