My Interview with Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers

If you're a fan of Wheeler Dealers, I think you'll really appreciate this interview. He really breaks down what it's like to be the creator of the #1 automotive show in the world, and how he deals with the crazy amount of criticism and hateful comments he gets, especially after edd left the show.

He's really a sweet guy, and lives and breathes cars. Besides...he has a bunch of vintage 911's, and that makes him a rock star in my book.

Ha! He rolls with it pretty good. "I can't stand that fat a-hole" he says people say.

Looks like he has dropped a few pounds from your pic. Good for him.

As many times as I have said more Edd, less Mike, Wheeler Dealers would not exist without Mike.

Eye opening that he keeps well over 100 people employed with his ventures.

Thanks!

Yea, and he really keeps the lights on for the show as well. He's a hustler.

Glad to hear he is a cool guy.
I get the impression he is overacting on wheeler dealers. He is a deal chaser. Lowballer sometimes.
He is a bit overly enthusiastic for my taste sometimes.
I saw another show of him where he visits troops in afghanistan. Different situation, different Mike.
Since Edd left, Ant took over and I don’t think the show is worse. Ant is a cool guy too.

I like it, different from Top Gear of Fifth gear, but that is agood thing IMO.

He always seemed like an okay guy to me, not realistic regarding expenses on auto restoration, but he comes across as pretty down to earth.

I never really had an opinion about Mike one way or another, but after attending a car-talk forum that he was part of, I came away thinking that he's actually a pretty stand-up guy. He came off as the same 'Mike' seen on the show...very outgoing and brimming with enthusiasm for vintage cars. He really loves what he's doing and is justifiably proud of WD's success. Even when asked several questions about Edd's departure, he never took the opportunity to knock him. Just said it was unfortunate that he made the choice he did.

I was sad to see Edd leave WD and really didn't know what to expect from a new co-host. I think that Ant is every bit as good as Edd was...and in some ways, even better. The guy definitely has some skills and is very good at demonstrating the step-by-step progress of each rebuild.

Looks like Edd's fear of the show becoming just another platform for product-placement hasn't come to pass...at least not yet. No less hands-on work being done now than there was before he left.

If you're in SoCal he's doing a solo show at the Irvine improv on Thursday, April 11.

Hey man, good to see you post. Made any cool T-shirt’s lately?

Very interesting, I like Mike.

Not Porsche related. But I should. Soon. :)

I’ve been hooked on WD since the first Golf GTI episode, back when they did the whole project on a £1000 budget. It’s never made sense to me all the Mike Brewer hate. Car enthusiasts getting upset that a guy is too enthusiastic about cars? I don’t get that.

Mike seems like a decent bloke, but he needs to stop reading comments about him online. Agree that Ant is as good as, if not better than Ed. Ant recently married the blonde from ‘Flip or Flop’.

#1 car show? I have never heard of him, or the show, before today!

I presume you don't have cable TV and the Discovery channel. His show is only 17 years old and still going.

sammyg2 04-10-2019 01:04 PM

….. Mike reported that the 40 year old engine ran rough and stumbled and wouldn't idle.
So I'll replace this $3 gas filter and it'll run like new!!!!

The old WD was a tad more for people who knew cars. The new WD is entertaining even for people who don't.
Less intellectual, more gimmicky. But that's on the people BEHIND the camera, not in front.

BTW I don't believe I've ever missed an episode, seen most of em half a dozen times. But I'm not fanatical about it. ;)

Got the tv show recording thingy gizmo set fer 6 pm next Wednesday, first show of the new season.

One good part of the new version, I get to look at the freeway signs and calcumalate how far from my house they are. Closest so far was under a mile.

In the interview with Mike, didja happen to ask him who's idea it was to do this?

Or this?

One car they couldn't give away, and one they actually did.

I thought it was very poignant when he said that:

He rebuilds cars and sells them

That’s what he does.

Why so much personal negatively against him?

I have seen the show where he sold a car at exactly what he spent to buy and restore it. Just to sell it to a real enthusiast of that type of car. I always figured he has the TV money to pay the overhead and salaries, and rent and so on.

I very much like the show, and I really wish Edd China lived next door to me. He and Ant work on every weird vehicle out there. I would love to hang out and learn from them. It is fascinating to me to see the many different ways car manufacturers build cars. Some cars need to have the front suspension taken apart to access the water pump. That is the part I enjoy the most, the repair procedure.

Because we Brits hate it when we create what we believe are national icons only for them to scuttle off to the US where they get better paid. We then turn on them and vilify them for being what we perceive as traitors. Its one of our many national failings along with bad teeth (totally accurate) warmish beer (again accurate) bad food (totally inaccurate unless your last trip to the UK was back in the 90s) and unreliable cars - (really reallyaccurate)
