Longshot search for Pirelli tire
 

I need an exact replacement for a Pirelli P1+ 225/50/17 98W. Apparently the P1 is out of production so NOS or high rubber used will be my only choices. You guys might ask around your locale when it's convenient. Sure would help and I'd pay a good price for that tire as my only other choice is to buy 2) P7's and then have different tires front and rear. Not that much different, but still, it's the cost of a pair vs. a single.

I did 'buy' one on eBay 3 weeks ago but the seller never had that tire and just took my money. That's pending, but nothing else shows up.

Longshot I know, buy this place comes through sometimes for the weirdest stuff.

There's a seller in Germany who has P1's in your size, not P1 Plus.
Shipping to the US would be expensive, but maybe that's an option?

I was looking for 16" tires, which seem to have vanished from US stores.

I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a company in Chicago that sells lots of used tires. They can be found at utires.com and sell on eBay or direct. They have over 64,000 reviews on the flea and are at 100%. They have some new tires and "driven once" tires which I assume would be dealer "take offs" when a customer upgrades.

If you suffer damage to a tire as I did and the tire store is trying to hose you, this is an alternative. I was sold a set of Pirelli's less than 2 years ago that are no longer made. So this is a bonanza for me and the tire I bought is being sold as "new" even though they seem to specialize in used tires. Furthermore, I'm paying about 1/2 of the price of the next model Pirelli I could have used and I don't have to buy a set of 2 to keep the same tire/tread/compound on each axle. So from 400 to less than a hunny, I get my ride back on safe rubber. (The dealer I bought the original tires from did tell me he'd install the tire for free.)

If anything goes wrong with the sale, I'll let you know.

I kept looking for G's and G's and found some used Michelin's for my PU that would cost me a total of $250. I'm being quoted over a grand for these up and down the blvd. 3 of them are only 6/32nds in tread so I might pass but if I have the patience I could snag the 11/32nds one for $89 and keep checking until I have a full set.

Almost everything has become more expensive in the last 10 years, but tires have gone WAY up. They are indeed much better than tires from the 1980s and 1990s. I used to buy a set of 4 new tires mounted and balanced form my El Camino for under $250 out the door. I recently had a deck screw right on the edge of the tread, and had to replace a tire. Just one tire was over $200 bucks. Tires are better now, but not 4 times better.

They are the only part of the car in contact with the ground, and are 100% responsible for making the car go where I want, and avoid the places I don't want. I will just open the wallet wide, and continue to buy good tires.

That used tire place sounds interesting. I guess if one has lots of time, it is a great option. Thanks.

I remember buying Hankooks just to burn up on forest roads. An ice and gravel tire new for $37 each that I mounted myself. But that was 2003 before they were even really known in the US.
