Airline Math

I had to cut short my business in Kingston. So I call Delta and tell them I need to change my flight from April 25th to April 18th. They say no problem, but it will cost $567!

I only paid $750 for the ticket, but I need to get back, so whatever. Well, as I'm giving my credit card number I get cut off (cell service in Kingston is spotty). So I call back and go through the whole scenario again and they guy says, "that'll be $219!"

What kind of random number generator are they using to come up with these fees?

Did you forget to say please the first call?

Better than when I missed my flight home from the Bahamas because they closed the check in counter early without notice and American Airlines charged me $1000 for their error.

Airline fares are completely nutz. If I have to change a flight one-way the fare is often crazy stupid high. If I instead book a new round trip to/from my destination, the fare is 1/2 the cost of one way. I'll book that and just throw away my other unused tickets. WTF!
