Any long time Atlanta Braves fans here...
Looking for a "star" pitcher (I think)...definately a pitcher who was later an announcer (TV I think also, could be radio though)...going back decades mebbe....
I have Tom Glavine...anyone else I missed? |

Gregg Maddux and John Smoltz both did some commentary.

I started out just naming a few pitchers....of course those three, even mentioned Phil Niekro, but was told not them....then the "sportscaster" was tossed in...figured it was a cinch

As soon as TBS was formed and they started showing Braves games throughout the week, I became a fan.
Those were the good old days, needless to say.

Jose Perez?
I remember him late to pitch a game. He got lost driving to the stadium and drove around 285 for hours looking for it. Back in the mid 70’s, we used to bring in a cooler with gallon jugs of beer and sit in the bleachers for a couple bucks. Good times! |

Forgot that name from the past....don't see any announcing history though? Thanks!
I have a pup (recently acquired from a top breeder....he picked who got them back when. I want to tell my dad (HUGE Brave's fan still), that I have what million$ and Cy Young awards can't buy ![]() ![]() Due to the announcer connection (and definitely a pitcher and I think a "star" too)....I'm betting it was one of the first three.....I just ran off "last names".....Glavine, Smoltz, Maddux then Niekro when the couple said it might have been further back...where's Columbo when ya need him? |

Older? Lefty, Warren Spahn was one of the greatest Braves pitchers of all time...but Boston and Milwaukee Braves. He and right-hander Johnny Sain were a pretty unbeatable combination in the late 40s, early 50s in Boston.
Ryan Klesko was...and is a big hunter, but not a pitcher. Same for Chipper Jones (SS) and Charlie O'Brien (Catcher). Only other pitchers I can think of are Mark Wohlers, Alan Embree, Hunter Cervenka and Steve Avery...but they don't seem to match up.

I worked in Atlanta in the 90's. I had some interaction with the Braves during their Championship years because of my job...so I went to quite a few games and was in their championship parades (although I was a nobody). They sent me Christmas cards for years that I left on my desk so that the other losers (like me) that worked with me thought I was somebody (in my prior life). Pretty petty, but I have few legitimate claims to fame.
