Raptor poacher

Any ideas on what this guy was thinking?

Maybe he was a prey animal in his previous lives and was just getting even...?

I love watching hawks and eagles hunt. Not sure why anyone would want to blast them out of the sky...

What a shame.

In my neighborhood we have about a dozen Mississippi Kites that migrate in each year. Should be arriving within a month or so. They swoop down the street and through the trees at about head high.

I read about people killing shooting eagles and other similar birds both in the US and UK from time to time. I don't get it either. Wankers, the lot of them!

Seems like a very arrogant thing to do. He must be sure that the laws were not meant for him. Should have gotten years of community service at a wild life sanctuary.

maybe he was a chicken farmer?

at least the rats on his rural property will start to decrease in number now that he's in jail for a while

DBs such as this deserve to die in prison. The guy clearly believes he’s beyond any laws or ethics.

Not sure if you are joking but raptors pretty much glide and float waiting to see a rodent to dive on so not very hard to shoot down compared to ducks or quail.

Birds of prey keep the vermin population down. I feed a pair of hawks almost on a daily basis. The come down within five feet of me to grab the food. Right now I suspect they are getting ready for nesting. One of them whacked me on the side of the head one day diving for the food I put out. I'm also thinking of building an owl box. The guy is sick.

He'll be made an example of. As it should be.

I don't know why the guy was shooting birds except that he obviously liked shooting things, and he liked hitting a live target. I don't know if he is a bad man or misguided. Clearly there is a reason why we have a rule of law, and why that law is supposed to be based on reason and some sense of morality.

Clearly it is good that the guy got caught, and it is important that people know about his being caught, and the consequences of his actions in the eyes of the law. Maybe he will even reflect on events and learn something. I just don't think that it will make me a more virtuous person to revile him. It is an easy bandwagon to jump on.

This raptor guy deserves to be stomped to death by an elephant, and completely eaten by lions....a fitting end for poachers.

Most old country folks that I have known have believed that wild animals on their property were theirs to do with as they please. I am not sure I disagree. It is a pity when they are endangered. I can only guess that the man must have raised chickens, hunted rabbits, or something that was prey to the birds, etc. Maybe a small pet dog or cat? Of course, what country redneck has not shot at something that they were really not supposed to shoot?

This is a pathologically self-absorbed view.

How so? I would say the same to you. You want animals? Buy your own property and have them. Put your money/property where your mouth is vice this guy's. Have all the wild animals on your land that you want.

For lots of folks in rural areas, keeping predators from eating their chickens, cattle or animals eating their crops is the difference between their family eating and not. Some, like bears, cougars, wolves, coyotes and rattlesnakes are downright dangerous. It is always easier to spend other people's money, prescribe how they use their property, etc. Send them a check if you want to rent their property/preserve their wildlife. They can eat and you can pat yourself on the back for being such a good person.

Let me put a rattlesnake or coyote in you back yard or house...or even a "protected bat in your bedroom closet and see how you like it.

You're right. We need more poachers and rednecks lest we all perish.

If it was on his own property...he really was not a poacher.

Yes, you would probably starve without rednecks.

I guess what you really need is a bunch of rich city folks to tell everyone else in the country what to do with their own property. That is essentially, theft.

It is the same with illegals and wild animals. Just how many do you allow to live in your back yard...and how much habitat have you bought/paid taxes on? Stewardship of the land by rural "rednecks" is the reason why most wildlife still exists. People that insult them typically do not provide an inch of habitat.
