How old do you think these shell casings are?
 

We have a pesky raccoon at the one rental house. I set some traps Sunday eve, My partner went down there to check the traps this morning and said he found 2 shell casings laying on the back porch. They look old, and corroded, but I swear that I have swept the porch at least twice now, and never noticed them laying there before. He said they were right in front of the door, and it was the first thing he noticed .

No way these could have been fired recently ?

Look like 45 acp, age who knows.

If it rained a few times, they could be just a few weeks old.

If that’s pitting they might be fairly old.

looks like steel...cheap rounds, can't be reloaded.

Look at the base - anything left of a headstamp? Will clue in to manufacture, possibly even year of production.

Also confirm what metal it is. If steel either WW2 vintage ammo or relatively new... if aluminum then sometime since the early 80s.

What does the primer look like? Outside view, and the inside.

Just looking at them, they are old and were fired a long time ago. Someone could have old 'brass' in some box and they fell out when moving. They could have been fired someplace other than where they were found, even for new fresh fired brass.

Anyways. Was fun to find 30 06 still in the rusted clips. Late 50's head stamps. Blanks of course.
Anyways they looked better then that casing. But Brass doesn't erode like steel. Especially non coated steel casings.

So I guess what I'm getting at. It could be this decade!
