They're still all over Flea Bay - think most folks don't realize they work perfectly with a PS/2 -> USB adapter.

I've really tried to like the ones you drive with your thumb, but still much prefer the Trackman - which you drive with your index finger, or can use finger & thumb for precise control.

A college professor (now retired) and family friend did some research, development and testing some time ago with an application names "Cyberlink" (not to be confused with CyberLink - a completely different product).

This was a direct man-machine interface. I don't know how actively research has continued in this area, but some details are available at Brainfingers .

I can't bring myself to roll the dice on an old used one that may or may not work or may or may not work more than a day after I get it, and I'm not going to pay the silly money that I'd have to pay if NOS was available.

Yeah, I've always preferred the finger actuated balls, but I can/will do the thumb drive models as well.

Holy Flashback!! I completely forgot about them. Anyone using Cadd had to have one for any amount of precision. It has been ages since I used one.

Lenovo Thinkpads still rock the nubbin

I have only owned laptops. Touchpads for me. Not touch screens. Hate fingerprints on my screen. Used a mouse on work computers but that was work and its been 12 years since I had to use a computer at work.

I remember using something like this for UG many, many moons ago.

The logitech I linked to has a button by the thumb to reduce sensitivity. Works great for cad/precision, and easy on/off.
