Anyone know The Cetera financial group
 

I had my investments with First NY that became Foresters Financial and have done rather well over the years. Now Foresters has sold the finance group to Cetera. I don't see much about Cetera online other than the usual stats, so...anyone have experience with them?

Also, I have a long history with my current rep and we don't know if she'll be retained. I'm wondering how hard it might be to transfer my portfolio to follow her if she lands someplace else. Any input on that?

I'm sure foresters is just the broker dealer so is cetera...underlying investments based on the securities underlying, mutual funds, stocks, it's, REITs, etc

I've seen a lot...if you have the time horizon, use a low cost s&p500 index fund, most mutual funds can't outperform them, typical expense ratios of less than 10 basis points, where you'll see actively traded mutual funds at 1-3% per year!

I find the fees they all charge to be obscene....it matters ;). That said....not knowing what you're invested in....most should transfer with ease between the firms...has for me. Handling parents' stuff from her rip-off firm to Fidelity was a beotch...

Most of the time, financial firms will try to make transfer of assets as easy as possible for you, they want your funds so why make it hard.

I consolidated everything to Fidelity and while it took a bit of effort, they handled most and in the end it was so worth it. Track everything from one place now.

Usually absolutely painless/seamless to have Fidelity (or any brokerage) to pull your positions from the other. My parents' stuff took three trips to his office (my choice)...problem was total BS from the advisor/brokerage I fired...'cause they truly suck :(.

If one is at all gifted about this stuff ...you really do NOT want to use them imo...why?

I've been with the same rep since 2002. He's moved 3-4 times and I followed him every time. He's been good to deal with and I've seen consistent returns over the years. He handled the transfer to the new brokerage.
My previous rep was the worst, he showed real interest the day I cut him loose.
If you decide to follow your rep if she moves on, she can do the transfer from her new office.
