And yet in Hollywood, that would be mild in a movie.

76 rounds? I think the Stormtroopers in "Star Wars" were more accurate.

otto_kretschmer 05-08-2019 09:35 PM

maybe they watched Heat before starting their shift?

Notice when a cop has a AR, it is called a rifle, but when a civilian has an AR, it is an assault weapon.

Who shoots through their own windshield?

My problem with this, imagine it had been a false call.

The P.D. seems to be doing the right thing by taking him off the force.

tadd 05-09-2019 06:16 AM

There are more than one cars worth of police. Follow and call in backup. Box him in where he can be dealt with safely.

I highly doubt that shooting thru the windshield is considered SOP.

Rusty Heap 05-09-2019 06:59 AM

so imagine all those missed shots....

stray rounds going out anywhere.

...how many houses or cars or kids or anything else in the cops way...........was "collateral damage?"

Serious. I want full bullet hole count of any passing or parked cars or other hard structure.

We only have 70+ rounds to find...........cops Ballistics report is going to take years

Tervuren 05-09-2019 07:44 AM

Seems no one else got shot.

Seems they didn't shoot in more crowded areas.

My problem is the shoot first talk later.

Even if the guy ran off, had they confirmed he was on drugs?

I'm concerned about say, a situation where the call to the police had been false.

As close as the cops were when the PU pulled up right next to them they probably had cause by observing the drugged driver. However, from there on it didn't go well and the officers have rightly been punished.

Sounds like the Jim West approach, "Shoot first, shoot later, shoot some more and when everyone's dead try and ask a question or two"

Clint Lando 05-09-2019 08:43 AM

That entire place is a crowded area.

It is literally a miracle they did not injure or kill someone else.

Well, in the video, the cops stated that he was pointing a gun at them.

Tobra 05-09-2019 10:55 AM

They also said this:
Quote:

Pedersen also directed Staymates to hold his fire with the rifle because of the risk of danger to bystanders as they headed through heavily trafficked areas.
Which is a lie.

5.56 was too loud for them inside the vehicle. He quit complaining when the guy leaned out the window to shoot.

If they are going to lie about stuff, they should have the sense to lose the bodycam footage.

gtc 05-09-2019 02:55 PM

Absolutely unbelievable that they would decline to charge the cops for any of this.
Quote:

“The fact that the two involved officers discharged their weapons 76 times, from a moving patrol car at Nava’s moving car, at approximately 9:30 a.m. on a Saturday morning, in a residential neighborhood where residents, including children, were home and on the streets, was alarming and irresponsible based on the totality of all the circumstances in this specific case,” the report stated.

The “conclusion that all of the available evidence is insufficient to warrant the filing of criminal charges against the two officers should not in any way diminish the fact that [this office] is alarmed by this conduct,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Scott Wooldridge wrote.

Tobra 05-09-2019 03:06 PM

Who exactly is it that concluded there was insufficient evidence to file charges on the officers? Seems pretty reasonable to at least let a jury have a look.
