Copperhead!!!

Found this thing while cleaning up next to the garage.
No idea how big he was, but judging by the 2x4 next to him, he is eating well.
I messed with him a little bit with a shovel and he didnt move.
Never even opened his mouth, so I left him alone.

They are VERY common around me. The neighborhood facebook page has several sighting posted per day. I can't recall knowing anybody that has been bitten however. I think one of the neighbors dogs got bitten and got pretty sick

Having creatures like that outside on your property definitely helps out with pest control. I would not want them nesting/camping out against my building though. I keep vegetation and debris away from my foundation and areas we hang out. If you are worried about kids/pets yes relocate otherwise I would leave them alone.

I see them all the time. Not aggressive. Help maintain food chain. I leave them alone unless they are in a vulnerable location, and if not....I re-locate to safer surroundings.

WOW!! i would have a perimeter around my house that is so free of hiding spaces. i would seal every hole and utility box.

cool snake. i would also buy one of those snake clamping things. that way i could grab the offending snake and go running with it while saying.."yah yah yah....."

He would be dead, and a sweep of the yard. A small snake will release all it's got.. worse than a large one fer your pups....

Kill 'em on sight...get rid of what they like in your dawgy space....within reason.

Snakes are one thing, poisonous snakes are something else entirely. Since I have dogs, and they are not well educated as to the difference, my yard is a poisonous snake free zone.

maybe. dog okay. my dog would bring it to me as a fetch toy and probably press it into my thigh.

but i was told (by a supervisor. thankfully not my supervisor). he said this with a straight face. he said, BEES and Wasp will eat the head and have the same venom the snake had. i probably shouldnt have said, "are you effen chitting me?!" (we were in a safety meeting). but seriously..he said that.

There was that incident in the news where a chef cut the head off a cobra to cook it, and then sometime later the head bit him

Snakes have extremely slow metabolisms, so therefore they don't need fresh blood pumping to live a long time.

Its one of the reasons why Snakeskin boots etc are not legal to import into Canada.

The suppliers just cut their heads off and throw them in a pile, to die a long slow death.
The humanitarians (or maybe snakatarians) don't like that idea since it isn't seen as humane to allow an animal to live after cutting off its body.
