Great day at the bow range.

On Saturday I had the chance to visit a local bow range with my Brother-In-Law. I'd never really walked something like this before and kept thinking of it like redneck golf. There were quite a few similarities including the chance to lose arrows almost as quickly as I lose golf balls.

We walked 72 shot locations, from 10 to 80 yards, and it was a blast.

Hope to do it again soon (The last time I shot my bow outside of the back yard was 6 years ago, so I hope it's not 6 years from now)

I had never shot past 40 (no need in the woods of MN), and had to put my 40 pin on a spot way up a tree in the background for the long shots.

If I go back I'll spend time on their flat range and actually sight in an 80 pin before I go in to the woods.

My BIL has a super fancy sight that lets him crank it up or down on the fly.

He lost two arrows on short shots following long shots because he forgot to crank it back down. :D

Wow that's an amazing course!

80 Yards, yeah I'd be losing a few on that one, I only have a 3 point site.

We used to have a small outdoor walking range like that one close to my house but it closed down. Would love to see another one open.

Ahhhhh a woods walk, we do those with our black powder muzzle loaders too and some times there is a maximum time and if you go over then points come off. We swap shooter/observer and so on.

Ah, we call that Field Archery here in the UK. Haven't tried it yet, only been doing Target Archery for just over a year, shooting an American Flatbow, custom made right in Sherwood Forest from American Oaks that grow there( English oak was used up centuries ago building our navy )

I did a similar thing years ago but with shotguns and clay pigeons somewhere between Manchester and Leeds .

Can’t remember much over than it was great fun , had wooden huts in the woods with heaters and coffee , the owner drove a 911 , and I got a sore right shoulder :D:D

I worked at a shotgun/ clay pigeon (sporting clay) range similar to this a long time ago.
We would hide behind a piece of plywood with a skeet thrower and simulate scenarios for the shooters.

I still remember the shotgun pellets occasionally ricocheting off the plywood. :D

What could go wrong?
