I think I might be having a 2/3 life crisis!?

I turned 60 two weeks ago and went out and picked up this 87' Unimog 1250v. Price was cheap enough that I couldn't walk away without buying it. I don't need it, and really don't want it, but here it sits! Came with the 12.5' plow and the truck has just about all the options on it. Like I don't have enough projects as it is! I think I'll get it running and driving and see if I can swap it for a class B or C motor home. Or sell it and see if I can make a few bucks and let the next guy enjoy restoring it. This one makes my two 416 Doka's look small!

If that's what you are into , you enjoy them then why not ? That bad boy will clear some snow ! Needs a lift kit :D

60 is only middle age if you live to 120!

wdfifteen 05-23-2019 04:55 AM

It's not a crisis unless you put a lift kit under it and hang some bull balls on it. Then you might need an intervention.

Long ago one of my wife's friends found out that I have a Porsche. The lady asked my wife if I got into Porsche as a mid life crisis thing. My wife said that can't be, he bought his first Porsche when he was 19, and he is over 40 now. I actually bought my 911 when I was 40, and that has been well over 20 years ago.

The only help I can offer is if you need to free up some space I can store the yellow one for you while you restore the new purchase. I can even drive it for you now and then to keep the fluids moving and condensation out of the oil. If you need. :)

I went the opposite direction: the closer I get to 60 the more crap I get rid of.
But who are we to judge? ;)

ckelly78z 05-23-2019 08:07 AM

I'm still trying to build my shop, so I can take on more projects...although probably not this big !

You win.

That is backwards! You need to get into the Tim Hancock mode and get some more toys! We all need more toys. You are never too old for a happy childhood. Sitting on the front porch of a tiny house with minimalist furniture and watching the sunset will get horribly boring in a very short time.

One of the honest reasons I drive my 1986 El Camino and 1985 911 is there is ALWAYS a next project or task to do. It beats the hell out of golfing or fishing or just doing nothing.

Now lets not gloss over this "doing nothing" thing so easily.

My wife says it's weird that I consider it entertaining to just sit there and think.
She says, "think about what?" I say … "everything".
it bothers her so much she has to stop it with conversation.
uh huh, yep, ok, uh huh

Not if yer a "thinkin' man".... spend half-a-day deciding to use a 7" black plastic worm, or mebbe a different color. Stresses me out though....the planning it part ;).

I don't bore easily....yet I do :)

Totally agree.

That’s why I got rid of the wife at great expense which was worth every penny. GF used to ask once in awhile what I did today:

‘Nothing.

She stopped asking...eventually.

Is that a Hanomag?

Bill Douglas 05-23-2019 05:49 PM

What.

Your poor wife. I think she would have preferred it if you had an affair to celebrate turning 60 :D

mepstein 05-24-2019 10:53 AM

I just had a birthday. I would have loved to bring a truck like that home and watch my wife's face.
