Ok... or my girlfriend, or my gun, or my tools or my daughter....

KFC911 05-29-2019 07:05 AM

Does yer wife know about this girlfriend....I'm just curious :)?

Shaun @ Tru6 05-29-2019 07:11 AM

This thread simultaneously confirms my disdain for most and reaffirms my faith in humanity.

Good job Fred.

I would consider having a friendly talk with your ahole neighbor.

More than one way to train a dog

Pretty much what everyone else said, you showed restraint. Drunks can really try your patience sometimes. If someone touched my dog, other than to pet him, they would have been sleeping it off.

And when they woke up, you would be facing an assault charge and a lawsuit that would find you sleeping it off - under a bridge somewhere. Not that I'm saying that is right, but those are the times in which we live.

Maybe so but if anyone puts their hands on my family, I'm not going to be doing legal calculations before reacting. :)

Then you should've REALLY made his day....a free azz whuppin' & and an expensive ride....

Don't F wif me dawgs....nope.

gatotom 05-29-2019 09:45 AM

Good on you, people can be buttheads for sure.

After 4 labs myself, some have not been the sharpest tacks but they are all about loyalty and will love you to death. The thing that all labs understand is food, roast beef will make them do anything within reason.

I am sure your dog would take a bullet for you.

speeder 05-29-2019 09:54 AM

You just don't mess w someone's dog. My stepdad almost got in a fight down at the lake in Minneapolis where we walk the dog, I can't remember the details but it was over the dog. We had Goldens who liked to go in the water and maybe he shook the water off and got someone wet(?)

At any rate, my stepdad was basically a pacifist but he's 6'4" and he was ready to throw down w some younger guy, from what I heard. You don't mess w a dog. :)

DonDavis 05-29-2019 10:05 AM

Judas Priest on a unicycle...that's bananas.

That jack-leg is due for some autocorrect.

But it's probably best the way you handled it. I presume you'll eventually have a follow up convo with him. Either he'll bring it up or you will.

What a dumb-ass.

pwd72s 05-29-2019 10:41 AM

Hell, I messed with my neighbor's dogs the other day...and he thanked me for it. Both rescues...black lab and Boxer. Cindy is a bit afraid of dogs. Worrying, she said she couldn't get the mail because the neighbors across the road were gone and their dogs were out. Cindy had called Troy, told him they were out.

So, I went out..friendly talked the dogs (I'd met them before with Troy & Stephanie both present) and easily led them back through the gate...played fetch with them a bit, locked the gate. Cindy called Troy back. They'd probably intimidate somebody with ill intent, but they really are nice pups...

I got lucky neighbor wise...Troy & Stephanie, young couple (to me) in their mid & late 30's, two well behaved kids. 14 year old Susannah who must be driving the boys wild, and her 11 year old brother Scott. They moved in a couple of years ago..

I just messed with the GSD next door....in MY yard at that! Been messin' with all the neighbors' mutts for a couple of decades now...a bunch....every chance I get actually :)

You get a pass too Paul....mess on!

Danimal16 05-29-2019 11:53 AM

Fred, you have a very nice looking pup. I miss my Daisy.

SweetWaterSurprise 05-29-2019 12:46 PM

Guessing this guy hasn't seen any of the Wick movies? You don't F*ck with a man's dog.

asphaltgambler 05-29-2019 12:53 PM

Sounds like time to ex-communicate your neighbor............

rcooled 05-29-2019 01:56 PM

Good job, Fred. How'd this bozo come to be holding your dog's leash in the first place? Did he just yank it out of your hand?

Great looking pooch, BTW...

vash 05-29-2019 02:57 PM

happy it didnt escalate. it would take major problems for me to lay hands on someone.

i would have gone to great lengths to keep my dog's leash out of his hands.

Rusty Heap 05-29-2019 03:08 PM

I'm with everyone 140%.

But still.

you can / could be charged with assault.

ANY contact, even a finger touch thumping their chest.

I once "very politely" asked a women to leave my mothers Estate sale.

she refused saying this is a public event.........

she didn't know I was the son.

I had lightly touched her shoulder and arm, leading her arm out the door, as she was blocking others.

60 minutes later sheriff shows up. Assault charges .

The cop said sorry but I have to get your report. and be sure to write down that NO contact happened.......

I should send the lady a Flaming bag of dog poop on her front porch.

KFC911 05-29-2019 05:23 PM

Showing great restraint is an awesome plan A...you guys are right, I know you are....no question....but mistreat a critter...

Plan B - PPOT legal defense fund :)

Steve Carlton 05-29-2019 07:19 PM

I'd like to think that if someone is physically abusing one's dog, physical contact (such as what Fred did) is justified.

True. Unless you feel you are in danger. In which case, he has committed a crime. Seriously.

Yes, particularly if he swings first. ;)

McLovin 05-29-2019 09:57 PM

I’ve never written to your magazine, and never thought this would happen to me, but I got a knock on my door late last night and was surprised to see my neighbor standing there (she’s a total knockout by the way!). Anyways, I invited her in

Oh wait, wrong thread.

But Fast Fred can deny it. No witnesses, no injuries... The fact that the other guy is a drinker, and drunk at the time, he probably fabricated the whole story...

My neighbor's get a POUNDING knock at 1am....some dawg is at their door....a good lookin' dawg...but not worthy of a P. Letter :(.

fastfredracing 06-03-2019 06:16 PM

Well, we kissed and made up tonight. We see each other quite a bit while we are out in the yards working, but it has been raining off and on a lot lately, and I have not seen him since our little episode .
I was out stacking wood , and he came over, and apologized at least 5 times, and thanked me for not decking him .
My wife hates him, and asks why I put up with him, but I always say, it is better to just try and get along .
He said he was schat faced and did not know what he was doing .

Icemaster 06-03-2019 06:36 PM

Buy him this, just as a reminder:

Baz 06-03-2019 06:50 PM

Says a lot that he made the effort to apologize, Fred.

As humans, all of us screw up once in a while.

Someone once said one of the hardest things in life to do is to own up to one's faults.

I could have heard it here. Wouldn't be surprised.

Hopefully he will learn from this incident...

Hard-Deck 06-04-2019 04:07 PM

Fred, good job protecting your little buddy. I would have likely stabbed the dude.
