Anybody here know anything about MIDI software?

I am primarily a singer, but I'm trying to learn to play the piano better as well. What I would like to do is set up a MIDI system to play sheet music on my piano while I concentrate on the singing for now.

I have a Roland EP-85, with MIDI 5 pin DIN ports (IN and OUT). I will probably use my laptop and a USB to MIDI extension cables to connect to the piano.

Then I need software to read the sheet music PDF or scan it (I do have a scanner built in to my printer) and send the signals back to my piano. I only need it to read and play the piano bass and treble scores. This is where I need help the most, as I need something good, will run on my Windows 7 computer, and not too expensive.

The software selection is where I am completely lost.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I would check the website MIDI.org to see what they say. Back in the 70's and early 80's I used a software program called Cake Walk but it is no longer around it seems. One package I use for videos is named the AVS Video Editor and it has a module named AVS Audio Editor and so far I have not tried it, BUT the video software is fantastic! Good luck looking.

We have a piano that accepts midi files on a memory card. There are quite a few sites that have free files already done. I don't know if they can be edited, but I was able to put together a holiday memory card.

Also search "midi karaoke" as I recall at least one of the public domain karaoke programs uses midi files.

Yeah, as stated above, if these are standard popular songs, no need to scan music, just get the midi files. Not sure why you want to play over midi playback, why not just sing over audio playback?

If you must scan sheet music, I have a colleague who has done this very thing, but it will be a couple days before I can get you an answer.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll be checking out the free versions first, before plunking down $$.
