If you’re going to sleep in the road, watch out for the SNAKE!

I have no idea why this couple was sleeping on a dirt road, but it’s funny a rattlesnake was checking them out. The guy got up super fast. The girl, not so much.

How drunk or stoned or high does one need to be to fall asleep on a gravel road? I can’t imagine.

Did someone report them or something? How did he find them? Doubt he just stumbled upon them!

The snake had already checked them out and decided they weren't worth bothering with.

2 Mason jars. Save the weed for the preacher's snake ;)

Snake smelled the Meth, said, nope, not going there.

Equally odd.. what appears to be a gravel road to a culdesac/turnaround.. and 2 large billboards can be seen. Seems like odd places for billboards.

And yeah, snake was much closer as the cop pulled up. Snake played it smart and moved on.

The gentleman did a great job of protecting the girl too.. guess chivalry is dead. At least when your choices are between a snake and a cop!

Having done sign easement Surveys in the past, the billboards are probably along the side of an interstate, and the basic road to them is the access easement to change/maintain the billboards. There are typically 3 easements to a billboard; an easement for the structure itself, an access easement to maintain the billboard, and a view easement so the tops of the trees and brush can be kept cut so that the traveling public can see the billboard.

For most of my life I have hunted, fished, camped, and backpacked in the heart of rattlesnake country (sw Ok) and I have never seen a rattler in the wild. Though I have heard one.

When walking through a wooded area one rattled right in front of me. Couldn't see him due to high grass. But it was damn close. My heart went into high gear. Luckily I was next to a large granite boulder that I could climb on top of so I climbed aboard.

I tried to get him to rattle again by throwing small loose pieces of granite into the area in front. When I couldn't get a response after a minute or so I bailed off and high stepped it out of the area.

One very beautiful dawn down near the Everglades I was all contorted and on my right knee trying to take an award-winning wildlife photo when I heard the hissssss.

I looked down and there it was. All coiled up and scary-looking.

The picture turned out a little blurry.

That snake was closer when the cruiser cam picked it up. Looked to me like the snake was moving away.

fintstone 06-04-2019 07:05 PM

It must have been a bit cool out. The snake had been attracted by their body heat and was likely cuddled up with them to stay warm.
