CL charging $5 for car ads
 Love it or hate it? I think it's good. I have no problem forking over $5 if it cuts down on the SPAM. Thoughts?

This has been in place for dealers for at least 5+ years. It was about cutting down spam, not making money. Dealers would post their whole inventory of new or used cars to multiple areas daily. Community complained, CL responded, dealers adapted.

I'm surprised they did it for by owner. I list my construction equipment for sale by dealer and pay the $5 but by owner you don't have to pay the fee for heavy equipment. Drives me nuts to see dealers advertising by owner just to save $5. I have told potential customers, if they'll lie to save $5 per ad, what else will the lie about?

I'm waiting on a big money order right now, according to the buyer of my wheels. He said all I have to do is, after expenses, send the remaining balance back to him. Plus he's even sending his own truck to pick them up. Is this a great country orcwhat?

I have bought/sold on CL for many years, never a problem. Sure I get spam/loser responses but am aware enough to weed them out quickly. If CL starts charging it will be a matter of time before they are consumed by a bigger fish with more devious intent. Probably already happened...

Checking the local CL - 8 Cars for sale by owner today.
Yesterday - 78. Let's see how this plays out. I'm guessing more beaters will show up in the auto parts category. Hopefully this will cut down on people posting wanted ads, parts ads, and posting their car in every CL within 500 miles of their house. I already have a local dealer who I swear posted the same car on 22 times on the local site and most of the big city ones within 200 miles, and he has to pay for them. |

But it wont stop the weirdos and scammers from calling. Iv only successfully sold one vehicle on cl and he was a stalker. All the other people were tire kickers scammers or druggies. Ebay so much easier. They dont ask a million quesions just pay the money and leave. Actually i sold two. The guy was cool and easy deal but i had to store the car for two weeks and basicly threaten them to come get it and only got 1/4 of my asking price. So F cl
