Motorcycling touring is a slippery effect slope!

Just mounted my luggage racks. The rack company finally got them to me; he did change the design. He zagged, the pannier company zigged.

I called the pannier luggage company and he is my kinda guy. Over thinks things. I emailed him a simple question about dimensions. He called me completely curious as to why I needed the dimensions. - we discussed my situation. I’m going for it. I can take a motor out of a 911; I’m sure I can mount bags to my racks. Despite the rack company’s unknown modifications. .

Bags are one the way. I’m going with soft bags. MOSKO. The mosko guy is bummed my racks changed. He said he spent money machining his “pucks” to accept square tubing.

I know a pelican runs them but I forget. Next. New tires. And a tank bag...and iPhone bracket, and spare fuel bottles, aux lights........(endless)

. Road Trip!

I got frustrated by the lack of coordination between the bags I liked and the racks that are available... Other than the tusk system but that was pushing $500 for something I wasn't sure if I'd really like.

So I found these Nelson Riggs dry bags I liked (Its wet around here) and built some pannier racks to match them.

Vash, I had no idea that you were an ADV, or aspiring ADV rider. Awesome! I'm already planning my rides on the BDR routes, and TAT. Maybe I'll see you out there.

When I was young and foolish enough to tour on a motorcycle, I never packed more than the tank bag and small tail bag. No saddlebags, no tent... The last thing I wanted to do after a long day of riding was to sleep on the cold hard ground.

Ya gotta keep the bike light to have any fun.

Less is more.

This one is high-falutin compared to others. Clean-ish sheets - home-base and spanish BBQ.

Still spots open for our Wisconsin trip...

The BDR routes are fun. My riding buds and I have done most of the Utah and the Idaho ones. Lotta fun.

I’m regretting clicking on this thread and also following Sook and cstreits adventures on Facebook. Makes me want to get a bike and go explore the mountains of AZ.

Idaho BDR will be my first one, the plan is in motion for 2021, when I return to the CONUS. After that, not sure, but I do plan to wear out as many tires as I can.

Here’s how I travel and camp on Oahu:

How do you like the Tw200? My wife wants one but I’m afraid it won’t do above 45 mph.

That would make sense for the most part. However, even after I retire and return to the CONUS in two years, I will still be a worldwide travelin’ man. And thanks, riding safe is the key to fun.

cstreit: I love the TW. When I knew that I was moving to Hawaii, I started looking for a “just right” dual-sport, ADV bike, and the TW won out; it’s perfect for the island. I am 5’7” 174 lbs for datapoint. It comes stock with a 50-tooth rear sprocket, which will push it to ~60 mph. I installed a 47, and it will do 75 without hitting redline. It cruises the H3 from Kaneohe to Honolulu (up to 6% grade) easily at 60-65 mph. There are times when the wind hits me at 15-20 mph, and then I can only hold 50, but that’s not due to gearing, it’s due to a lack of overhead horsepower.

If you wife is on a shorter inseam, there is a good mod to swap in a Virago shock, and drop the forks an inch or so for a 3-inch total drop.

I can talk forever about how much I like the TW (it’s one of 15 motorcycles I own). If you want to know more, send me a PM, and/or check the below leading TW forums:

Thanks. Knowing it can hit 60-70 is a load off actually. If we occasionally have to jump on a highway, its nice to hear that it won't be totally out of the question. Thanks!
