needs A/T & A/C need some agility and braking power to dodge stoners & phoners (in cars, on bikes, skateboards and afoot) mine happens to be a 2010 Sube Forester but Subarancid has pissed me off with head gasket failures, so... next one will be a different brand |

Whats the main reason to not daily drive a car from the 60' or 70's? (assuming its been gone through) Is it the lack of creature comforts, reliability? Those cars had decent tech, a/c, pwr windows, cruise control, leather interiors, ect, After all these cars were the daily drivers of their time. Were the cars of the 60's and 70's reliable in their heyday? I would think they may have been over-engineered if anything but I honestly don't know, I was a kid back then lol. I will say that nowadays I rarely see a car broken down on the side of the road but I'm guessing its due to all of the sensors that give the owner a warning something is about to go wrong.

I'll admit to becoming spoiled in my old age. I want my car to have good power for the freeways, most of the creature comforts like pwr windows, A/C, steering, brakes and it has to get decent mileage too.
Everytime I see an old '60's or '70's car that hits a nerve with me I think to myself, that would be so cool to tool around in that. But then I immediately think, nah, it'd be like driving an old car, even it were restored to like new condition. Every time I think about getting rid of my '11 Accord I think, What am I going to get that gives me all it does? Yes, the '60's and '70's cars were daily driver's during their time. An interesting point is when was the last time you had to replace an exhaust system on a newer car? I can remember doing that numerous times on the cars our family had during that era. I've only ever had to touch an exhaust system on a Porsche the last 25 yrs or so. |

I've daily driven my '67 bug for the last several years May till the end of October.
But it has a 2.6 t4 engine and a 901 tranny, so power isn't an issue. ;) |
I am looking forward to having a new master cylinder put in this in the next week or so I can use it as a daily driver this summer. I have contemplated replacing the original drive line with something more modern. But that would be down the road some.

My DD is a '92 Toyota P/U, but to be fair, I usually cycle to work or around town.
Having said that, the gist of the OP, that some fella is driving a bone stock "T" from sea to shining sea, strikes me as being about as much fun as a root-canal - either as the driver, a passenger, or the hapless fools stuck behind him as he inches his way up towards the continental divide. |
The 1985 Grumman Kubvan and 78SC are my usual rides. My owned from new 2008 VW Rabbit has just turned 45,XXX miles so not used too often and that is my newest.

If it has hydraulic brakes I think I could drive it. In the 30s hydraulics were not the the norm so I'd say 40s and newer. I daily drive a 25 year old truck and my Cayman depending on my mood. The Cayman is sort of primitive since its a 6 speed manual. I can live without power window, locks, traction control, stereo, and power, heated seats. It does need safe brakes and acceleration.

I would drive a pretty old car as a daily, but pretty much anything I would like, it would break my heart when someone in a minivan killed it while they were not paying attention.
