i'm gonna unplug our office alarm backup batter and plug in a new one.

some cheapo HoneyWell system. shows low battery.

this is for my office. to do it officially - i need, official request from 3B-1254-(rev.2.0), sent in triplicate, approval forms returned in triplicate with wet signatures, peer review, 3 lowest bids, mock set ups, dry runs, contingency plans....

the battery is $21 bucks on Amazon. i'll take a long lunch break as compensation. ;)

how may ways can this go wrong? i cant see a reset button. i could jump it and keep the system seeing voltage the entire time..i think i saw how he did it on that movie "HURT LOCKER"

figure i'll run it by you all before i cripple my work office because we hate paperwork.

I wouldn't do it ... could loose settings, etc. How farked would you be if Things Went Wrong and "They" found out you were responsible?

File work orders, email the boss, whatever. Make it someone else's problem.

It's a backup battery, right? As long as you maintain power to the system, replacing the battery should be a non-issue. Look up instructions for your particular model on Google or YouTube.

If for some strange reason it triggers the alarm, quickly leave the area while shouting "wuzzint me!"

This ^^^^^^. If it is the backup for security system, someone will have to access the system via the system code to reset the date, time, and other info that's ongoing as the system runs when you unplug the old battery. So if you maintain the power as you do the change over, you should be good to go for another five to seven years or more.

Will take 24hours for unit to do a battery test then you can run your disarm code and it will reset.
It will not alarm when you unplug the battery, Batteries are 12 bucks at the supply house.

If you have a battery fault, your battery backup is most likely not working anyways. Even if you disconnect power briefly, it will likely just see it as a temporary loss from the power line (like a brownout). I have done this quite a few times myself without problem. Unless you are securing the crown jewels, it is unlikely your system is spohisticated enough to care (intentionally)...to prevent false failure.

Still...be stealthy and be prepared to disavow knowledge if necessary as noted above.

I'd hire a cute college intern just for that purpose ;).

Batteries typically last 3 to five years then fail the alarm panel load test. I have dealt with hundreds of these honeywell panels and have only seen a couple with a bad charging circuit, in fact they are some of the most reliable electronics I have worked with.

Our household alarm has the battery backup as well. The panel will send me an alert that the battery is NFG, and I go get a new one. As soon as I disconnect it the "tamper alert" goes off, and I get a text and email, connect the new one, and another tamper alert, one more text and email, and I am done.

If you know the phone number for the monitoring company, call them first. Tell them you are going to replace the battery, and they can put it in a mode that is proper for replacement of the battery. Then tell them all is fine, and they will put it back to normal mode.

just pull the old battery on a friday afternoon when nobody is watching and vacate the premises..
they'll think the old battery just dropped voltage causing the alarm and somebody will replace it for ya
