Has your vehicle ever been hit while parked?
My car has been hit three times in the same neighborhood. Has this ever happen to anyone else?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...244a854d56.jpg

Yes!
If only there were an app for that! |
Yep, 4 times with my 74 914.
In 4 different parts of the city. I never even got a note saying something like "everyone thiks I am leaving you my contact information but I am just gonna screw you and leave you nothing but damage". It was $500 to $1000 for each corner. Literally, each corner, the 914 was hit, flattened a fender, and the car was legally parked in a good place. |
The '06 Jetta got a slot punched into the rear bumper cover one night while I was playing just down the street. No note but from the shape and height of the slot, I would guess it came from the tractor trailer that delivered in the area on Friday evenings. I didn't bother doing anything about it.
That damage you showed made me feel kind of sick. Good luck. Les |
Just once that I know of.

3 stories.
1. When I was young and poor I DD'd an early 70's Chevette. I parked it across the street in the grass because it leaked oil. One morning I was walking out to head to work and it was gone. I thought it was stolen. Why!? It was actually about 40 feet down the road with a smashed front bumper. Someone hit it and took off. 2. I just got my RX7 out of the paint shop, it received a 5k paint job. Maybe 2 weeks later I took it to work. When I walked out at the end of the day someone had hit the back bumper scraping it good removing paint and left. No note. 3. My Son ran to Walmart to buy oil for his E30, he walked back out and found his back bumper and quarter panel smashed. No note. People suck. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |
Several times, yes. One time they left a note, they were in a company vehicle.

When I first got out of college I worked as an auditor and Costco was my first client. They had 12 warehouses at that time. I parked my then new 1985 Honda Civic in a far corner of their lot. Came out later and had a bad dent in the right rear quarter. The note under the windshield wiper was there, but it had rained and nothing was legible.
I replaced that car a year later with a used RX7 that was in really nice shape. It was parked in my driveway behind the house. Came out one morning and the hood had basically been danced on. It looked like someone tried to break in, could not and got frustrated and stomped on the hood as a result. |
Get a red car............oh wait.
I've only been door dinged, had idiots crush my front chin spoiler by parallel parking by braille, and had a small crease put in the S-10 by what I assume was a trailer of some kind. Pretty lucky over all considering the idiocy out there. Oh wait, had the whole front fender of the zebra Tracker crumpled as an arse hat with a landscaping trailer backed into it. The hit and run was well witnessed, and got my $500. |
Its happened to me twice. Now I find myself driving the Land Cruiser more. If someone wants to hit me, they'll cause more damage to their own cars.
My friend sold his 235i after it got hit three times in parking lots over two months. |
Once. Totaled in a ski area by a ski area maintenance truck.

Several times. Mostly small damage but this one time....
After dinner and a movie I had taken the girl home and we were on the couch trying to get to 2nd base. I had parked my Capri in front of her house on the wrong side of the side street so the car was facing into traffic. We hear this huge collision in front of her house so we both jump up and run oitside and see this Monte Carlo with it's entire front end smashed all to hell and steam boiling out of the radiator. The driver, mid 20's, is just climbing out of the drivers window because the door wouldn't open and staggers to rhe curb and sits down. I approach the guy and asked him what the hell he had hit. "That car!" as he points to my Capri. I walk over to the Capri and don't see much damage but it does look like the bumper was slightly tweaked. Then I notice it was about 20' from where I had parketd it, Cops showed up and he passed the drunk tests. He told the cops he had just left the dirt track races at the Lawton Speedway. Apparently the bumper of the Capri road up over the Momte pumper and proceeded to reek havoc. They totaled the Monte while I drove home. His insurance paid for my new bumper and one piece of aheet metsl under the bumper. Sad part was I never made it back to 1st base. |

Got side swiped legally parked in front my parents house while visiting, It was one of seven partrol cars responding to a marital dislute across the street,
|
Yep. A tow truck dragged the car it was towing across my rear bumper and tried to flee. I stopped him and told him that I had called the police, wrote down his license plate, and he needed to sit tight. Then I wrote down his license plate an called the police.
It turned out that my fun had only just begun. The towing company issued fake insurance cards to its drivers, so it took months to figure out who their insurance company even was. Shady SOBs at Joe's Towing. |
My wife's purple car has a dent or scratch on almost every panel.
All done when she was parked. Kinda odd some of my out buildings have matching purple scratches and dents. Coincidence? |
I think I told this story before.
Years ago we leased an Audi A-6. 2 weeks later we were in a shopping strip plaza, we had parked at the far end of a row on purpose and I purposefully parked one space over from the end. This way if a car parked next to me there was a 50/50 chance there would be a passenger, I was on the passenger side. I had thought this through. We walked down to a crappy chain Deli / restaurant for a bite to eat for dinner, it happened to be at the end of the row we were on. When we came out we were walking down the row, it was pretty empty, once you passed 10 cars at the close end there were no cars for 20 spaces until you go to me. A white passenger van was parked in the space past me, the entire row was empty and there was this van parked right next to me at the farthest space. He is on the line between the spaces crowding my car. As we were walking up I am thinking, why? We walk up and as I round the drivers side I see the door ding, the side door of the van white paint transferred to my charcoal paint. I am seething. I walk back into the deli and tell the hostess that a white van in the parking lot left it lights on. I got back and wait, I am guessing I did not hide my anger well because the owner of the van was walking out with his waitress following him. As he walks up he looks confused, he lights are not on. I then say to him as he is walking up, "Can I ask you a question, this entire parking lot is empty, why did you park on top of my car?" I get a stupid look back.. I then point to the side of my car at the door ding. I told him, it was a 2 week old leased car and he was paying to fix that, I then asked if we need the police here. He gave me all his info and apologized, still with no answer as to why he parked on top of me. Then the stupid waitress jumps in and starts using her dish rag on my car rubbing the paint scuff, I about lost my mind, I told her to stop scratching my paint, as she declares it is coming off. I really didn't want to put my hands on her but she was not listening to me as I walked towards her telling her again to stop rubbing that dirty rag on my car she stopped. I got in my car and left. I was able to compound the paint off and was extremely lucky my paint had not chipped and there was no dent. Hard to see in the dark in a parking lot at night. It gave me great satisfaction confronting a idiot in person for once. |
Yup. Parked along a street watching a fall parade. No note. People suck.
|
Ever since a neighbor's car got hit while sitting at the curb next door I make it a practice never to park our cars on the street if possible. Goes for the kids too when they come to visit.
A few years ago the neighbor's garage got run into by someone making a u-turn, and it is a good 15-16 ft back from the street. Shows how well the people around here drive. |
Has anyone NOT been hit while parked?
Funniest story was the accident our first born caused as a baby(he just turned 32). Wife was at local grocery store, changing his diaper in the back seat. Our son kicked, she backed up, and door bumped car next to her. I get the call and was working a few miles away. By the time I get there, he called police. I offer $100, he wants $1000. Officer takes one look at his car, and tell the guy to take the $100, not be greedy (his whole car was banged up, rusty) |
