Parking Lot Ding

Looking for some advice, please. My wife just let me know that she scuffed a parked car in a parking lot. It looks like it was limited to the plastic wheel arch trim on the other car. The owner was not available (she has been checking for a couple of hours now), so she has taken photos and left a note with our details.

Do we still need to report this to our insurance company even if we decide to pay out of pocket for repairs? Thanks.

No need to report it if you are covering the damage.

Agree. Why give the insurance company an opportunity to raise your rates if you’re not filing a claim?

Report it?

Absolutely zero good will come of it.

Yes, you're supposed to report any potential claim. But no one would in this case. It's like calling OSHA when your employee falls and bumps his head on the ground. You're technically supposed to but it would be stupid to. I would only if the other party was in the car at the time and could claim an injury. In this case, no way Jose.

Bumped a Honda in my truck, the only damage came from the bolt on my license plate. Told her to take it to my guy, gave directions, her douchebag boyfriend filed a claim for 2200$. I turn them all in now, let insurance do their job

There is no need to report to your insurance company. OTOH you must report any accident damage over $1000 to the DMV.

Sounds like you need to reevaluate your choice of insurance provider.

Not really Stomach, I offered to pay cash to have it fixed. Her DB boyfriend tried to get more $$. the fix was probably $300. I turned it in to my insurance the he claimed the big number.

today going back to my car at a shopping center............got my blood totally steaming.

early 20's year old girls were loading snot nosed kids into their trashed french-fry stained mini-van.

Beatch had a bumper sticker on her drivers side window............."I have kids, park close and I'll ding your ****."

I got in her face about it. I played a Higgins.

Lady, that's a $500 bill for me minimum.

Minimum door ding paint fix is easily double more than that.

I wasn't in my pcar.

hindsight. I should have pee'd on her tires, after repeatedly bashing my car door into her car side.

Beatch must watch Jerry Springer..............heck she and muffin top pants friend most likely starred on it........

zero respect for others. I believe I may have called her kids fat and ugly.........I don't recall (quote: Bill Clinton)

I did ask how her food stamps were holding up.

I live in Chicago and dings occur on bumpers and when I lived in the burbs , it was the sides. I can almost tell where someone lives by the location of the dings.

I lived in an upper middle income burbs for about 10 years and dings were treated as part of normal daily life - wasn't a big deal. Living in the city is even worse, no one gives a crap. Unless I had a garage, I wouldn't own a new car in the city.

Ferrino, I applaud you and your wife for doing the right thing. I wouldn't report it unless the car owner is going to be a dick.

I do like the window sticker - I gotta get that.

Rusty...you need less caffeine. Her sticker is funny, and accurate. Not sure what you got pissed about. Higgins is your role model? Brilliant.

exact same thing happened to me. i bent the license plate on a clapped out integra. i offered to pay for their troubles. AND I LEFT A NOTE!! they hit me up for $1700. i told them to **** themselves and i called my insurance. which rolled over and wrote them a check. they never fixed the car. they were my neighbors.

insult -> injury..the next few weeks my truck got hit; no note. my insurance got hit again.

Ferrino, You and your wife are class acts. I truly hope the other driver appreciates it. I'd probably tell you thanks owning up, and just ask for the part, I'll install.

My daughter was home from DC last weekend. Similar thing, someone tapped her cap backing up, straight on parallel parking. They left a note, the only damage was her license plate frame was loose. She thanked them and told them not to worry, no real damage.

On the other hand, I hope the d-nozzle that hit my passenger door with a lumber cart at lowes gets what he deserves. cost me $500 to fix and paint, didn't blend well.

Amateur. To pull a Higgins, you’d have gotten in the kid’s face about it.
