Man. This was a GOOD purchase.
This thing is 15 years old. It just dawned on me, they need cleaning and lubing. Oops.
I took it apart and cleaned it and greased it with this clipper grease I had laying around. Tube was still good after the same 15 years. Wow! I forgot how smooth it runs. I need to buy a new “000” blade. I’ll hit up a barber supply place. I hope this thing goes forever. It should, it only cuts my hair. Call it “light duty “. (And it’s USA made) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1561087461.jpg |
I have a Wahl clipper that we bought in 2003 maybe 2004. That is like $3000 in haircut I bet, bargain. I have replaced the blades a few times, use the old blades on the dog when we had one you shaved.

You buried the lead, Vash. The fact that you have someone to cut your hair is what matters most. Yeah, sure, good clippers are handy, but good hands are priceless.
(Unless, you're using them to manscape? Then, nevermind!) |
I don't think I've had a dozen 'store bought' haircuts. Mom cut it as a kid, a long hair phase when I moved out, girl friends/wife's after that.
I like to think I didn't squander all the money I/we saved ;) |
You can buy blades on Amazon. I haven't paid for a haircut in 30 years.
|
I wore out my Wahl trimmer that I owned for about 15 years and bought another about 4 years ago. The "new" model doesn't seem quite as durable as the previous one, nor are the attachments as high quality. :( I don't expect it will last as long.

The last time I had a pro haircut the lady told me I should go to petco to get clippers. Said they have essentially pro quality clippers for half price.
Ended up buying cheapo chinesium clippers as a test bed to see if I was ok with the homebrew method. Surprising they still work fine 9ish years later. |
My last pro trim was nothing but a lesson on how to DIY. He even ordered the clippers for me. If I still lived in he area I’d hit them up for new blades

~$15 for 2 minutes of trim told me it was time to buy the Wahl's.

Return from the dead for this thread - of course started by one of the thread starter masters on the board! VASH!
I am getting tired of my shelter in place beard and hair - coming up on 3 months. I need to cut it all off. I like the beard but any type of reasonable face mask / respirator is useless with an inch long full beard. I looked up the wisdom on this board (also found "I CUT MY SACK" - :D) and this. This looks to be a $170 piece of equipment. That's 10 haircuts. Are these still made in the US? Thanks! George |
I have an ancient Wahl clipper. Early 90s. Still going strong.
|
Remington. I liked the name so I bought the hair clipper. Rubbish. Two years old and the battery barely manages a hair cut - and I don't have that much hair  I've heard the Philips equivilent is quite good, or like you high end guys, buy a Wahl.
|
I have a Wahl battery powered clipper that I use on the dogs. Dog hair must be rough on blades, because I had to get new blades about about 20 dog groomings.
Not worried about cutting my own hair. Lettin' my freak flag fly down past my shoulders now with no end in sight |
How do you guys cut the hair on the back of your head? More specifically, the one on the neckline. I tried and it looked like a rat bite.
|
Bryan, that's the easy part.
Put on the thick comb attachment and go from neck to the top, mowing down everything. Then half height comb attachment. Put one hand half way up (2/3 maybe) the back of your head and mow from neck until it hits you hand. And so on to get that gently haha layered look. I don't care. they either love me or loath me from front on, and never look when I'm leaving LOL |
I did that, and I used a ball cap for a border. It still looked like a rat bite. Now I just use a 12mm and 9mm.
|
I bought a Wahl that burned out after 18 months! Replaced it with a Surker that's been going strong. Like Vash's it sees light duty.

Edit: Yeah, I know, can't find the 10mm..... |
I am sooo close to doing this. I thought my hair would just grow long. Not out.
Show us some pics of the results? |
I usually get mine cut every two weeks. Going back to the barber after two months and short hair made me look and feel 10 years younger. I paid the lady double (voluntary tip) and it was worth every penny.
