I clicked the cash offer now button on Auto Trader, Don't ever do that !

I've been car shopping, and for the halibut, I put in my info this morning , with a potential trade in .
I struggle to keep up with the phones at work already. I just stopped for the day, and see I missed 13 phone calls in the last few hours on my cell . I did not recognize any of the numbers . I made the mistake of calling a few back thinking they may be potential customers . " NO, I AM NOT COMING INTO YOUR DEALRSHIP!!!"
Every one of them. Car sales people .
I never buy retail. I don't do used car salesman. No wonder people get frustrated . Wonder how long they will pound my phone .?
Gonna be a long week . I should have known better.

Good luck.

But it could be worse. My cat likes walking over the keyboard. I'm afraid one day he's going to do a "buy now".

It could go on for a while. The best is when they hand a list with your name and phone number on it to the newbie sales person to make cold calls.

I'm sorry Fred but you'll have to change your name and enroll in the witness protection program.

Same thing with TrueCar. I filled all the info out, realized what was going to happen, when it didn't just show me a bunch of prices, and then accidentally hit "submit" instead of exiting out. My phone started ringing within minutes and the calls did not stop for over a month. Months later I went into the local VW dealer and asked for the guy who had left me so many vms. I was finally ready to shop and told the guy he was the one who blew up my vm the most. He said, "In other words, I was doing my job, right?" I'm in sales, so I get it. We couldn't make a deal, but I do have to respect his persistence.

In my current job I buy leads. Direct mail leads are considered the gold standard because people have to put their cigarette down, grab a pen, fill the postcard out by hand and then put it in the mailbox. You can't imagine how many people say they never filled it out, when I have their handwritten info in my hand. I even closed one a few weeks ago, mailed in by a homeless guy, who kept no-showing or canceling. I finally knocked on the door of the address, his sister answered the door, told me her brother was homeless, but invited me in and I closed her husband. So this stuff does work.

For anything like this where there's a high potential for getting spammed or having your info sold, it's best (or almost compulsory) to use a throw-away email address and/or throw-away Google Voice number.
This includes requests from insurance companies/brokers, mortgage brokers, hotels, car dealerships, etc.

I went through similar with car insurance quotes.

Decreasing frequency after six months.

Went away after two years.
