A bit of drama.

I have a driveway chime in the garage. That's a chime that doesn't actually ♪ ding dong ♪ in the garage but only in the house.

I was asleep and heard the alarm so I got out of bed and put jeans and boots on, GF came out too with the phone. There was a guy wheeling my Honda XR400 out of the garage. As soon as he saw me he took off and I was .5 of a second after him.

He was running for his life and I was running to....

After about 100 meters I totally hit the wall, gasping for breath. I looked up and he was 75 meters ahead of me similarly out of breath, so I took off after him again. He did't see me coming so I almost had him. He took off and I chased him for another 200 meters down the street then he disappeared around a corner and into the back of a restaurant. Suddenly he leaped out at me and a minor scuffle then he was off again. I was hard on his tail. He ran down a driveway then disappeared. I really couldn't find him.

Four or five police vehicles suddenlyarrived. Arrived in minutes. The dog handler asked where I last saw him, then suddenly the dog went nuts and the guy was hiding only meters away. The cops dragged him out and I was busting to whack him over but not a good idea with police all over the place LOL

Geeze, the most evil looking guy. Really BAD looking facial tattoos and glared at me full of hate. I glared back at him full of hate and let him see a clenched fist, letting him know I was up for it.

All the usual forms statements etc for a couple of hours. I got details that he is a major bad guy and has been remanded in custody until his video link trial. Wooo, I was lucky I gave him grief before he did something crazy like stab me.

Haha, but all good fun unless someone gets badly hurt. I'm limping a bit with pulled achilles tendon, but smiling as my inner moron/bloke gets a big night out LOL

That ain't smart, running after an unknown perp like that in the dark.
For all you know his buddy who drove him there is waiting for you and they stick a knife in ya.

over a dirt bike?? worth what? 1500 bucks? (i don't know prices for those down there).
Is your life only worth that much?

also, what are self defense laws in NZ like???
If in a scuffle he trips and falls badly with his skull on the curb.. and ends up veggie state..
Will his family come after you in court?
You ran after him, so it's no longer self defense is it?

dan79brooklyn 06-25-2019 09:44 PM

Damn. That’s some sketchy ****. Glad you came out ok. Hopefully that’s the first and last time something like that goes down for you.

cstreit 06-25-2019 09:46 PM

Glad he got nabbed, but no property is worth your safety my man. Street justice was due - but everything has cost....

pwd72s 06-25-2019 10:53 PM

Tell me the police dog got a good taste....please.

So, what are your thoughts on how the system there will deal with him?

DanielDudley 06-26-2019 01:32 AM

Good work.

Time to up the security.

rfuerst911sc 06-26-2019 01:44 AM

Glad you are ok and bad guy is in custody . Did he break into the garage or was the door open ? If he's a career criminal he should never have freedom again . He can become dog food for the K9 unit as far as I am concerned . I have zero tolerance for career criminals .

Sometime you just go into "reaction mode" without thinking....

Glad it worked out Bill.. .

Now don't ever do that again ;)

LWJ 06-26-2019 02:09 AM

Nicely done!

Stupid to chase, but good work!

Exactly my thought! Bonus points for being a badazz though, even if it wasn’t smart. :)

sc_rufctr 06-26-2019 02:47 AM

Well done Bill. I'm glad it worked out the way it did.

Shaun @ Tru6 06-26-2019 03:07 AM

Great story Bill and glad you went after him. You'll be a legend on the streets soon.

masraum 06-26-2019 03:21 AM

That just proves the old saying wrong, "there are old ninjas and bold ninjas, but no old, bold ninjas." Apparently, there's at least one old, bold ninja.

You're really lucky that there wasn't 3-4 of them with knives and bats behind the restaurant. Be careful.

crustychief 06-26-2019 03:53 AM

Wow, I am glad he got caught!

Dixie 06-26-2019 04:09 AM

Tell me more about the chime setup.

flatbutt 06-26-2019 05:10 AM

Was the GF all turned on by your manliness? SmileWavy

T77911S 06-26-2019 05:16 AM

i was expecting you both sitting on bench out of breath from running, too tired to fight.

glad you are ok. next time take a gun and just pop off a few rounds, u don't have to hit him to scare the piss out of him so he will NEVER come back.

my fear would be retaliation from him because you know he will be out again.

Some people stand up for what is right and others are victims. Good for you. I owe you a beer.

Jeff Higgins 06-26-2019 05:47 AM

Well done, mate!

And to those questioning this, no, no dirt bike (or lawn mower, or pressure washer, or whatever is stored in the garage) is worth this kind of risk. But principle is. Honor is. Some ass hat tries that with me, and it's on.

The very real difference here where I live is that I can confront him while legally armed. I would have absolutely killed the dirty SOB. Yes, "over a dirt bike"...

vash 06-26-2019 06:28 AM

nicely done.

one word. CARDIO! hahah..

you're a bad ass bud.
