Hit 79 today but, still a cool ocean breeze off the water. Marine layer starting to come in and the temp is already back down to 67.

High of 78 tomorrow, sunny, more of the same. Kind of epic and I do feel for the Central Valley.

113F in Ehrenberg AZ. @ my Lazy H ranch by the Colorado River.
Sun tea gets to 140 in direct sun.

It's 91 at Holmes Beach, but that's not really telling. The issue is the sun. As you get closer to the equator, the sun becomes more intense. In other words, it feels like I'm an ant under God's magnifying glass.

"relative humidity is the best..." what? Indicator for when life isn't worth living? For just considering becoming a swamp-dweller because, once you're hot and wet you might just go with it?

90F here in Los Alamos, possibly our hottest day of the year, and 6%RH. Up at 7200' even we who have been here for 20+y (and are already basically human-jerkey) are enjoying bleeding lips and chapped eyeballs.

I work at the local history museum now and greet visitors from all over the world. Our baseline patter with them is "enjoy the visit! drink more water! see the history! for god sakes drink something because I don't want to call 911 again! check out the Oppenheimer stuff! drink more water!"

Years ago, one of my brothers from AZ visited me for the July 4th weekend in SC. We were having an outdoor cookout party, and I mentioned, "at least in AZ it's a dry heat." Without batting an eye he responded, "dry heat, wet heat, it's the same oven."

stevej37 06-07-2024 04:08 PM

^^^ yes.. that's the type of humidity I was asking about... relative.

Rawknees'Turbo 06-09-2024 03:38 PM

It is 91 degrees with 96% humidity here in Fort Worth, TexASS now - fookin horrid.

flatbutt 06-09-2024 05:35 PM

111 IS damn hot.

I spent 2-3 days in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area once, I think it was Aug. I think I remember one mention on the radio of 118º. The humidity was in Houston on vacation. What kept popping into my head was "it's not the heat, it's the humidity". BS! At that temp, it's the heat. I also don't put my head in the oven.

We haven't had any crazy hot weather yet. Yeah, we've been in the 90s, but that's just summer. We haven't hit upper 90s or 100s yet, so we're all good.

Relative humidity itself is useless. Without knowing something else - like the temperature - it tells you nothing. What is really important is dew point. Unless you have dew points above 70F, I don't want to hear any complaining about humidity. :)

stevej37 06-10-2024 01:08 PM

^^^ There is an old crude joke about relative humidity that involves a hot cousin and humidity.
I was thinking someone would remember and laugh. Not safe to repeat it on here. :)

Dixie 06-10-2024 01:53 PM

Okay, I'm complaining. It's stupid hot in SWF. Forget the humidity. The humidi-titties is what's killing me. I'm not talking a bit of mountain dew. It's much worse. It's full on rampant boob sweat. In fact, it's so bad that men are starting to make eye contact with me!

stevej37 06-10-2024 02:22 PM

^^^ That is hot! :)

I was in Siesta Key last week and every day was hot starting at 9am. We went to the beach there and there was no wind and 90 degrees.

Back home now, the high has been 70 with a breeze.
