Good sized earthquake just ending...
Hanging lights still swinging.
|
So, not "the big one"? Hope you didn't suffer any major damage.
|
No damage over here in Redondo but rattled. my French partner. Her first earthquake. Wonder where was the epicenter.
|
Felt a rolling sensation for 5 or so seconds while sitting on my patio. We haven’t dropped into the sea yet.

6.4 in Ridgecrest/ Searles ...10:33 Am
Felt rolling here in LV..knew it was a long ways away and pretty big. lasted quite long.. |
Yep, the high desert got it big time.
|
Stay safe guys. We’ve had some little ones over the last few years, even still it’s a creepy feeling.

First quake in the new house. I was wondering how it would fare since I’m in Castaic near the Santa Clara River.
The Northridge Quake in Fillmore cased snot $30k damage and is in the Santa Clara River Valley. I was working in the garage and the door was making a up and down clicking sound, thought the opener was going tits up. No damage, no big shake, thinking the abode passed the test. |
And the Fillmore house wasn’t cased in snot, “it caused about”. Effing spell check.

Anchorage in the 80's was sitting on the can on the 18th floor of ARCo's tower downtown when a decent one hit. Not as big as subject earthquake but plenty big enough to feel toilet move underneath my naked rear end. I think that building was on rollers but it did not negate movement. Very creepy. |
The closer to the epicenter the sharper the jolt..the farther away its a rolling or swaying motion. When you are real close you hear a loud kbam ..along with the jolt.
|
My son felt it pretty good in FT Irwin.
|
I do not miss earthquakes at all. Glad everyone is ok.

I have a lot of friends in China Lake and they said it was a good ride...everyone is ok, however. Earthquakes are the drive by shootings of natures disaster menu that will get you kilt....everything else comes with a warning. |
Hopefully it was not a precursor quake to the big one. We had a few little ones here, and I do not much care for them. I just can not fathom the one Japan had at 9+ and 5 minutes long.
|
I've never experienced one - knock on wood. Glad it didn't do any damage for you fellas.
Hard to believe the ground could "move" without some kind of cracking/compromise of building materials/structure. I guess most structures are able to flex a bit here and there, thankfully. |

Thankfully, Ridgecrest is not densely populated. |
Didn't even notice it, we were out to breakfast and the waiter asked us about it, first we knew.
