Car audio guys, what is this ?

Im earning my stay at my buddies beach house.. Some one did a really crappy job of a stereo install on his Carrera.

Whatever these are, they are his problem . If you even touch , or wiggle them the sound comes and goes, gets fuzzy, clean etc. I cleaned up , and repaired any questionable wiring already . When it works, it sounds great.
There is one wired into each door speaker . Just your typical Pioneer cd player from probably 2002 ish.
No amplifier . Im not a car stereo guy, but have seen plenty, and have never seen one of these before .
Speakers will not work without them .
Any ideas?

Crossover would be my guess. Since there is one in each door.

MB Quart was top of the line stuff way back when I was buying car audio in the mid 90s. Those also look like crossover bits.

bottom pic are crossovers. The top I believe to be impedence matching transformers, probably to run multiple speakers off a single amp channel without dipping the impedence too low. Amp channels are so cheap these days no one would bother.

Where is the amp ?
Does it have any rca leads from headunit ?
I’d wager not ....

Line-out converters for the after-market amp.

The top one could also be just a low pass crossover, is there any 6" or 8" subs anywhere?

The weight of the coils and stiff suspension would probably bounce them around and break the solder joints.

The MB Quart are also crossovers as others have mentioned and are needed, without them you will blow the tweeters if wired direct, and the midrange will sound harsh. Check all the connections.

Yes. That. MB Quart was high end in the day.
