Wimbledon anyone?
Federer v Nadal semi-final, holy crap! 7-6 1-6 6-3 6-4 to the 37 yo Federer. Incredible tennis.
|
He's the GOAT! I'm likely flying out to NY for the US Open.

I'll definitely check it out - very much looking forward to NY, although the weather won't be too fun.

I played tennis competitively when I was younger, and have played on clay and grass. I love the rivalry between Federer and Nadal, but it's strange how Nadal dominates on clay, and Federer on grass. While there is a difference playing on the two, I don't feel like it was THAT big of a difference.
Looking forward to the final, but to be honest, its been a long, LONG time of either Federer, Djokovic or Nadal...where are the young guys at?!?! |

No offense intended Brett, but perhaps your game was either not the right style, or not at a high enough level for the differences in the surfaces to make a significant difference in the outcome of your matches.
|
It certainly wasnt, my point was I didn't (and still don't) understand how a guy at the highest levels can dominate an opponent on one surface and be completely dominated on another by that same opponent, specifically clay/grass. Hard court I can get, because of the huge speed difference.

Serena goes down in flames 6-2, 6-2. Her days are numbered.
|
That was surprising. BJ King leveled some criticism at her that may go a news cycle or two.
Men's doubles on now for 3 hours and they're still in the third set! Tomorrow should be a great show. Roger v Novak has a lot of history. These guys know each other well. |
The Williams Brothers don't have the dominance they used to but they still love to push their political agenda.
|
Fed v Joko back and forth in the first set with so many stunning passing shots. Both are catching that last bit of chalk on the lines. These guys are amongst the fittest athletes today. Djoko seems to have just a weeee bit of advantage when the shot must be made, but only just.
Side note: the Duchess of Cambridge is truly elegant IMHO. Good grief 8 all in the 5th set and Federer at 37 is just starting to show a bit tired. Win or lose the guy is the GOAT. |
They’ve got a hell of a final match going...
|
That last set was one for the ages.

I watched the last maybe an hour and a half of the match (perhaps more) and was delighted I did so. They were both remarkable and gracious, in victory and defeat. |
Good plan.
I was really rooting for Roger, he was down so many times and managed to come back, only to falter in the tiebreaker. His serves were amazing today. |
1st place = $3MM
2nd place = 1.5MM I'll bet Fed would love to have one of those championship points back... One of the best matches I have ever seen. Been watching since late eighties. |
Federer doesn't need the money. He makes more in sponsorships and his own product line. He is chasing a record number of majors.
The fifth set reminded me of the old time tennis rivalry competitions between Agassi and Sampras or Mac and Borg. |
Reminded me of the US Open match between Connors and Krickstein in 91'.

"I'm out here playing my butt off at 39 years old and you're doing that?"
In the top 5 of the all time best tennis meltdowns. |
