That is cool. They became NOLO's, right and were flown out of Pt. Mugu?
I have .9 hours in the backseat of an F-4 on a maintenance test hop. Ensign checklist reader. It was worth the seat check and 1/2 day fam course. Quote:

My first trip across the Pacific Ocean back in June 1958 when my family was moving to Okinawa, was aboard this Lockheed Constellation. My mom took this photo when we were stopped on Wake Island for a meal and refueling and about to take off for Guam and finally Okinawa. It turns out that when this same aircraft was in service for Qantas it was used by Queen Elizabeth II and her husband while touring Australia.

Flew to Felts Field (KSFF) in Spokane today, and they are setting up for a big AOPA fly in this weekend. Here’s a few of the cool aircraft on display!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662701731.jpg

Was talking to a patient yesterday, retired pilot. USAF, fixed wing and rotor, trained to fly H53's in ABQ with an instructor that was a Brit, Flight Commander, apparently equivalent to a Major. The guy was an instructor for the British Air Force, and happened to teach then Prince Charles to fly a helicopter. Flight Commander Mandrake, as good a name as any, tells this patient of mine that in the course of your flying career, you will meet maybe 4 or 5 natural pilots. People who you show them once, and they are better at it than you the first time they do it. Apparently Prince, now King Charles III, was a natural pilot and qualified to fly every aircraft the British Air Force had.

While living on Guam from 1965 to 1967, I took up aircraft spotting as a kind of hobby. That and amateur photography, developing my own film. I did a crappy job of that but had fun. Our house in Agaña was right under the approach to the Naval Air Station so there were always interesting planes flying low and slow overhead. Not sure what this is from scanning the old negative. May have been a Coast Guard C-123 or an HU-16, both of which I have photos of. The HU16 was a Kodachrome slide that my dad took when we visited Truk (Chuuk).

I'm thinking the bird in the air is the amphibian based upon the boat tail shape of the lower fuselage and the position of the horizontal tail plane (part way up the tail).

Seahawk,
We were flying the aircraft that were marked with civilian N numbers, some were destined for Tyndall or white sands and others were shipped back to AMARC for parts. Not sure which was a better fate for them. We were trained at Mojave and at Miramar in their survival poo,l Dunk tank, Ejection seat rail and the Altitude chamber. Joining us (all in full flight gear) in the survival pool were members from the 13th. MEU Being older / heavier I would float a lot better than they would so I passed that part no problem, trouble came to me in the inverted dunk tank, They would drop to the ceiling and I would float to the floor and had to get a mighty push with my legs to make it out the door all under the watchful eye of the rescue divers, I was thankful and I'm sure they were that I did not have to be rescued. |

As bad as the Dilbert Dunker is, the Helo Dunker is the player. As a Kayaker, I would just wait, upside down, until all the churn of people panicking subsided, count my windows and doors and exit. The last few dunks you are blindfolded. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2022/05/top-gun-maverick-tom-cruise-helo-dunker-training-tool <iframe width="566" height="318" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TnXpya7YSPw" title="US Navy Helo Dunker" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> Every four years. I will tell you, the only time I was every scared in training was Shipboard Fire-fighting School. Jesus. I don't know how a sane person, Vinny excluded, fights fires. <iframe width="968" height="726" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9CJ0LpyB22Q" title="Pensacola.helo.dunker.1993.mpg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |

I'm not one for celebrity worship or getting autographs, but after 10-15 minutes there was a lull in the action, so I just went up to him and said: "Thank you", thinking that would be enough. He gave me a quizzical look, so I added "for your great contributions to aviation". I was about to leave him alone, when he began a nice conversation with me. What a treat to spend just a couple minutes with such a brilliant mind. |
Ok I don't often say this , but I envy you right now :D

What is the name of that airplane? |
it looks very retro in design, not the colors but the plane
must be very fun, stick and rudder, open air, no gadgets kinda flying |

I wonder how they deal with change of CG in flying just pilot
vs pilot and 1 pax and 2 pax. |

Having flown lots hours in big round engined taildraggers, I have a strong desire for low and slow. Really want to build one of these, but the waiting list is 2-1/2 years for the kit.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1662915724.jpg Some years ago, I was at Oshkosh and went back to my room at the HGI where all the dignitaries typically stay. I was waiting on the elevator when the door opens and there are three guys in there. Bob Hoover, Carol Shelby, and Cliff Robertson. What to do, what to do, what to do…. All I could muster was “Good morning gentlemen.” |
