I walked away from an illegal gun sale today.

Well, it may have been a sting, but I think it was just a prohibited buyer. I have a few guns on Armslist. Don't need the cash, just slowly getting out of Glocks and/or .40 and freeing up space in the safe. Yesterday a guy texted me from a local phone #, asked if I'd come down from $500 to $400 for a beater Glock 23. I agreed. But I was out on appts and didn't have it with me. I told him I could meet after 8pm, got home, texted him when and where I could meet. Radio silence.

Today he texted me that he had dozed off, still wanted it. I said same place in 30 min. No reply for an hour. By then my phone had exploded I got busy with work and I was going to meet a guy for a very, very good trade on another gun I had on there. That trade went off perfectly, totally cool guy, scored an amazing deal.

Finally met the Glock buyer at my range. He had FL plates, so I said I had to ask for an AZ ID. He said he was picking it up for his brother, who's an AZ resident. I said no AZ ID, no deal. He said he had a passport. WTF? Then he said he had his FL DL with him, but that he was an AZ resident. I said, "So you're an AZ resident with FL plates and a FL DL? You're gonna have a problem if pulled over. No deal." He insisted his brother was an AZ resident. I said, "You will go to jail over this and I'm walking." He gave me a real scowl. Five min. later I was on the phone with Mrs. Lee about dinner plans and missed a call from a 407 (Orlando) area code. Then he texted, asked if I was still there. I just replied, "No deal."

Then I called my bandmate, who's Phoenix PD. He said he'd put me in touch with the right person. I told him this guy or these guys are going to buy a gun this weekend. I don't know why, but they will get one. I'm waiting for a call from the right dept. at Phoenix PD.

This was apparently a real problem in az when I worked there about a decade ago .
Cannot remember the slang term for it , but it was the trade in guns bought in az that went to mexico .

I take it your range has good cctv covering the parking lot to help find the car ?

This was not remotely related or similar to Fast and Furious. Wasn't a straw buy either, since the guy I met wasn't legal to buy in AZ in the first place. Had he produced an AZ DL and said it was for his brother, that would have probably been a straw buy.

Handguns need to go through an FFL here in PA.

I have sold a few long guns through ads - never had any that I felt questionable about. Good old guys buying hunting guns.

I sold my last pistol to some weirdo. He answered everything right. showed good ID. But paid in very random denominations of cash. Maybe he was saving up for a spoon for awhile, and got the last of the cash blowing tweakers on the local offramps. I dunno and I don't care. I was happy to get rid of that pos, and that guy is prolly happy taking it to mexico.

I sold my old (pristine) bass boat to a legit used car dealer ()....standin' in the hot sun.
Started counting folded Franklins....20...25...then 20s....(I do have math skilz too )....sweat drippin'....then I noticed some were 50s....aw crap !

He said his wife (sitting in his AC truck) had coumted it earlier. I said jokingly..."can she count"...shook his hand....we're good !

yup, here in jersey too, I can buy long guns in PA with my NJFID.

I do a few parking lot gun deals a year and have never come across anyone I didn't feel good about until yesterday. Actually, I didn't even feel bad about the guy yesterday. He was nice, didn't look like a gang banger, etc. But he failed the residency test, then acted ignorant of the law, then made up a story. No sale.

And what a hassle. Or dare I say Infringement.

This isn't any new law. It's been around forever. Intrastate vs. interstate commerce. And I don't want bad guys buying guns anymore than the antis do. Sure, they'll get them anyway, but I want no part of it.

Yeah, RL, I get that, and think that individuals can be very good at policing their own sales.

My problem is with State law that is really tough to keep up with.
Perhaps it's all much simpler than I expect.
I do have an aversion to finding out the depths of laws piled upon a fundamental right of "shall not be infringed."
