The real issue is the transfer switch and controls are different. I would suggest she stick with the same basic model, maybe go up to 20kW. Foot print of the 17 and the 20 is the same.

Thank you. Makes sense.

Ha! Saw that one too. Not worth the drive, but would be a no-brainer if it was local.

Generator SuperCenter in Tomball. They sell/service/monitor Houston Metro (and several other places).

1-866-945-3714 if you want to schedule a Generac Certified Tech to come out and look at the dead one.

If you simply want a quote on the replacement, Victor Barrilleaux is a salesman at Generator SuperCenter and is a very sharp, respectful, courteous young man who will treat you right. His cell is 832.498.9140...you can call him or text him. Make sure that you indicate that this is a replacement of a current Generac.

Annual service (oil change, oil and air filters, complete diagnostic check and Load check) by a certified Generac tech is critical to protect your 5 year factory warranty.

Generator SuperCenter offers 24/7 monitoring for $37 per month ($444) per year which includes the cost to install a cellular GenMonitor inside the generator. The cellular service (approx $12 per month) is included in the $37 per month.

The GenMoniter will monitor/check 40 functions multiple times per day and start the Gen once per week. Run time will probably by 10-15 minutes per week in Houston. Should the Generator fail one of the daily systems checks, the GenMonitor will notify Generator SuperCenter immediately and they will telephone you to set up a service call.

24/7 monitoring is essential if you want the generator to actually start up and run when your power goes out.

The WiFi "monitoring" touted by Generac is rudimentary, dependent on wifi availability/functionality and is a phone App.
