Going to Amsterdam and Vienna

In the Amsterdam area from August 1 to 6, and Vienna from the 6 to 13. Any car stuff anyone is aware of that we should check out? Any other hidden gems that are worth a visit, outside of the stuff we have already read and planned for?

Thank goodness you are not going to Cuba!
That would spark a discussion.....

Sorry nothing to add of any value but hope you have a good time.

I skipped the Spanish Riding School the first I went to Vienna and felt really foolish for doing so when I saw it on my second visit. Spend the 14 Euros and go watch the morning exercises. That's the kind of thing you couldn't have paid me to do before, but I loved every second of it. Go get a slice of Sacher Torte at the Sacher Hotel across from the Opera. Keep an eye out for Villacher or Hirter beer. It's the best, but not real common in Vienna. Gösser is the national brand, but it's just ok.

Public transit is fast, convenient and easy.....use the whole city.

Would suggest the Alkmaar cheese market, Aalsmeer bloemenveiling (flower auction) although for the flower auction you really need to be there early - like 5 am - to see all the action.

If you like art, the Rijksmuseum is most excellent, see what is playing at the Concertgebouw for music and you will love the Museumplein (Museum Square). Hermitage is also a good place for art.

The Louwman car museum is a short freeway ride south of Amsterdam, just north of the Hague. This is the best collection I have ever seen:

Quite a few interesting cars can be found walking the streets of central Vienna (Let's see if you can find the "Ferrari"). The smaller streets in the central district also have some unique and interesting stores. Lot's of good eating too in that area (1516 Brewing Company has good food and beer).

Public transport is good and dependable. Just remember the week passes (I think €17~) is valid from Monday to the Sunday, not for a week from date of purchase. And make sure you keep the ticket with you. They do check occasionally. Tickets are easily available and you can purchase from and ATM style machine at any station. If you take the express train to the airport from certain stations in Vienna, you can book your bags before boarding the train.

I liked my visits to Vienna, hope you do too.

We just got back from Amsterdam. Stayed at the Sir Adam Hotel. Take one of the canal tours. Watch out for bikes and speeding scooters.

If you have time, pass by ghent, it's like Bruges but more authentic, more alive with people.
my home town Ypres for WW1 things to see and visit, Menin Gate, the WW1 cemetaries, cloth halls.. nice town and it's less busy now then it was during 2014-2018..

There is also the Nurburgring , avoid on weekends to busy with nutters, but evening during the week is much better.

The Porsche Museum and factory tour
and from there en route to Vienna make sure to do the B500 Schwarzwald hochstrasse from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt, epic road top 10 western europe

I wondered about Ghent and about the Nurburgring. It looks like the Ring is about a three hour train ride from Amsterdam . . . My gorgeous wife is happy to visit it. I am trying to decide if it is worth a six hour trip . . .

I’ve visited Vimy. Maybe we should see Ypres, too? Or even Flanders?

Train to Ring probably sucks connection wise, no rental car?
Ypres has a train station but it's off the beaten track, it's an end point
