Talk about a custom paint job
C.E. Bud Anderson, member of the GREATEST generation: This is a fitting tribute. I wouldn’t mind owning one of these cars.
Little known fact: Lee Iacocca, the brains behind the Ford Mustang named the car after the P-51 fighter plane and NOT the wild stallion shown on the vehicle logo. https://www.foxnews.com/auto/world-war-2-flying-ace-bud-anderson-honored-with-ford-mustang-old-crow-tribute-car |
That is cool, very, very cool

My cousin Billy flew a Mustang in the 355th squadron. A collector recently restored a plane using Billy’s “Tigers Revenge” as a template. They also took him up for a ride. At 95 years old, he’s still sharp and funny. He told my kids he was nicknamed Tiger because of the way he flew but is now more of a kitty cat. He also told me he has two birthdays. His government birthday is older because he changed his birth certificate to join the air force at 17 1/2 to his parents great displeasure.

Olive drab interior panels. How sweet is that?
|
I think the interior is the best part of the conversion.
|
You really should have titled this "talk about a custom interior".
Wow. |
Not many special edition cars with wild paint & interiors I like. This one is an exception. Very well done by Roush. A tribute to one of many we owe tributes to.

The car sold at auction for $400,000, proceeds to benefit the Experimental Aircraft Association educational programs.

I recall a series of scale model auto kits sold in the 60s that included aircraft-type decals.
As I recal, the GT40 had WWII style USAAC markings, the Porsche 904 had German crosses and a Jag XKE had RAF roundels. I am hunting for photos now, but so far no joy. |
I got to hear Bud Anderson speak last week at Oshkosh... He is getting up there, but can still tell a good story.
