sugarwood, if you read post#12:
Many or most of these devices are on all the time listening to conversations, recorded and saved for extended periods, and have live humans reviewing private conversations meant to be private. GM cars have that plus remote door unlock and remote shutdown. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

The only question is why people haven't made a bigger deal of it already.

I see a lot of ads right now for Lollapalooza. I have no idea who 99% of the bands are. Google Chrome.

I know this is on a different tangent.

I was watching Shark Tank and there was a guy pitching his pizza. I did a Google search.

Five minutes later I visited my football site and there it was a Google ad for those, and other pizza, at Amazon.

For those who don't want anyone to know that you purchased a light bulb on the internet

Yea, that's how it works.
Welcome to 2012.

And you know that will bring up 300 pound sweaty women with peroxide hair.

cstreit 08-03-2019 08:42 AM

I've often thought about testing this by having 4-5 conversations about something to see if I start getting ads for it, like "tennis rackets" or something odd....

I have noticed it happening for a long time. It was the speed at how fast it showed up. I went from the pizza search to the football site and it was there on the small limited scope (OU sports) message board.

That would be my luck!

What you're seeing is localized.

If you'd cleared your cookies after the search it wouldn't be there.

A lot of these "had a conversation and now I see adds for it", are from demographic data and who you know.

All it takes is your friend buying it, then talking it about it to you. Even if they hadn't said it if they know your friend was at the store for it, they know you as a person with things in common might also be interested.

It isn't so much the conversation, but where and who, the who both being demographic and what the who do.

Also, when a new product starts getting talked about; it is often from it trying to reach a large amount of people.

sugarwood 08-03-2019 01:37 PM

That's exactly correct. The algorithm is complex and relies on your network. The fact that you talked about it is just a coincidence. There are other items you've been shown that you did not talk about.

Sebscst 08-03-2019 02:56 PM

It’s not only ads but even the short cuts to google searches. I have absolute proof they are listening. My I pad is always on the coffee table in the living room. Yesterday an old 80s movie was on “summer rental” with John Candy. Me and my daughter started arguing about where it was filmed So I picked up my iPad and started to type. I typed “where was “ and it auto filled summer rental filmed. How the hell did that happen. Btw I was correct Clearwater/ St. Pete area.

sugarwood 08-03-2019 03:23 PM

How were you watching the movie?
Was it a VHS tape?

Sebscst 08-04-2019 07:29 AM

No it was on cable.

What kind of cable box?
Does your cable require any kind of login?

You don't think that Microsoft is in the big data business with Bing?

dad911 08-04-2019 08:16 AM

Must be listening in, been working on our new house, talking about electric. 3 way and 4 way circuits, yelling about my lost stud finder & wire strippers.

At least that's how I explain the recent porn ads to my wife......

Windows 10 default settings, plus Cortana and other co-joined non-removable non-opt-out programs, make it so.

There doesn't seem to be any consumer push to legislate normal restrictions...
It's all or nothing at this point.

When you use their products you agree to let them steal all your information:
Including medical/attorney conversations, business data, and personal consumer lifestyle and relationship profiles.

Not to justify, I dislike it all, but MS is just joining the other big boys in the big money-making frenzy.

My wife and I are trying an experiment, we talk to each other about getting a good price on something obscure, I won’t name it hear to void our experiment but pick something there is no way someone would know you were interested in.

Repeat it, ask about where to find it and the best place to buy one.

So far no targeted ads, we are all Apple products.

I understand that you are looking for azz fking dildos?

john70t 08-08-2019 02:40 PM

Win10 HP laptop.
I was getting poor battery life and severe CPU stuttering at times.
Other times were great.

I tried uninstalling the Conexant audio driver because "mic tray.exe" was running and would keep restarting itself even after killing the process.
That driver was previously caught 'accidentally' logging keystrokes..which is not audio.
(plus the sound quality was poor)

But after uninstalling Conexant it would re-install itself at startup.
I couldn't get rid of it.
As a temporary I turned off the microphone in the software settings. Good enough for now.

So I'm laying here watching the Criminal Minds series on the tv and do a Bing search.
I type "c_r_" and the first search suggestion is"Criminal Minds".
There were three suggestions for it.

john70t 08-08-2019 02:43 PM

Corporate stalking..
Just wondering what the legal penalties would be if I drilled a hole in a neighbor's wall and put in a camera/mic.

Of course they are. But they are nowhere near as evil as the G-word, they couldn't be.
And they are not working with Schwartz György to destroy our way of life.
