Do coyotes "bark"?
 

They've only appeared here in recent years, I've seen a few, but am not familiar with 'em. I "think" there was one behind my back fence....mebbe 20' into the woods...moved a bit deeper back when I lit it's eyes up and then strobed for a bit. Before I lit it up....I could hear it "barking"? Not a dawg bark, and not a fight or anything....

Game cams are out now...live & let live. But if yer a 'yote....you can't live here :(.

My 5 mo Lab does...and neighbors' dawgs too.

Yes they bark, they have many different vocals that they use to communicate with each other. Around here they can get up to 60-70lbs.

Yes they bark but typically it's a defensive bark and not a sign of aggression.

This sounded like a "bark"... intermittent, from a smaller critter. Not in distress...just perched back in the woods. Didn't scoot when I lit his eyes up at all...even the strobe took a bit. If it wasn't a transient critter...I'll get a look via the cams I set up...

I had one howling at me and my dog the other day. It wasn't so much a bark.

Raccoons make a barking sound. They have a wide range of sounds they make.

Two of my cats bark when they see squirrels on the back deck.

^^^ Been around 'coons since they raided the college apt. dumpster every day...did not know that. I have seen a 'yote behind my house....the behavior, "eyes", size....you might be on to something. I'll check the cams in a day or so....

A coyote's Latin name translates to Barking Dog.

A racoon bark is not very loud and is usually followed by a chattering type sound.

Raccoons are very smart. When it sees the game cam it will take a selfie...

Wife and I arrived home late one night to sounds I will never forget. A group of Coyotes were taking down a young deer. It was very erie. Pointing a flashlight reflected six pairs of eyes in the woods. These guys mostly yipped. I went down towards them to shoo them off. They dragged their kill away and things quieted down. Came back into the house and my wife was in tears. The Coyotes get pretty big in this area.

The one I clearly saw twice a few years back was mebbe 35-45lbs. Another at my pond was a scrawny runt...

I know they are pack animals, but usually seen solo here, and not that large.

We have a lot of them around, they will trot down the middle of the street at night. Usually going after rabbits and cats, I've heard them bark but they're usually pretty stealthy.

You know when they've caught something because they will all start doing their little "Yippy yap" barking celebration, sometimes it seems there's 6-10 in the pack.

They live in family groups but usually hunt alone in pairs. They will hunt in larger groups but thst is not the norn.

I have a lot around my place. This pic is from a couple of years ago. Right in the middle of town next to a middle school. There was a cat under the car that they eventually snatched.

No coyotes do not bark. They 'yip' and whine and howl, so if you want to regard those sounds as barking then sure, they bark. But they do not sound like a domestic dog. And yes, listening to a pack of coyotes taking down some prey is eerie.

Coyotes are target practice. They are basically large vermin. They are not endangered. They are a menace. They represent a danger to dogs, cats and potentially even small children. If I lived outside city limits and if I saw a coyote occasionally, I'd be taking those shots.

Yes they do. I have seen em barking. Plenty of vids of them barking.

The bsrk may be followed by yips and howls but they will and do bark.

I don't think this was a 'yote. I knew something was back there...heard mebbe 3-4, single, low...didn't sound like a dawg, but deeper "barks"... a few minutes apart. Then I went in and grabbed my light....no more noise...just a small pair of eyes. Thanks all!
