Ufc 241

One of my non-work related hobbies was fighting. As I got a little older, my body started telling me that I am a little too old to compete, so now I work as an official in MMA, Boxing, and Kickboxing.

Last night I worked the UFC and had a blast! I've been doing this for several years and will continue doing this well after retirement.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566146512.jpg

Advice: Don't bet real money if Joe Rogan wants to play pool.

What an awesome way to spend the evening! I keep telling my husband I want to see a fight in Vegas one day. Of Course Chuck Liddell has always been one of my favs.

Seahawk 08-18-2019 01:06 PM

David, I'd drop you and Chuck like two bad habits:D

So cool you are working as an Official. Wow.

I grew up boxing since my father boxed in HS and fought for West Point. Nothing serious on my end but it shaped a lot of my opinions about sport and conditioning. There is nothing so tiring as a three minute round.

I started boxing again last year in what we call "Slow Pitch Boxing". After a hip and great PT and CBO's I got back into a form of shape and found the right gym...guys around my age that wear pillows on our fists and head gear and have a hoot.

I so admire the UFC fighters, both sexes (sorry).

Alone.

Congrats!
I follow UFC quite a bit, sometimes dismayed with bad calls and what knot...
You are a lucky man!
Got love the Nick and Nate!

I did watch it (241) but nowadays I am really skeptical about winners and losers

For instance-I see no way in hail Petis could have knocked out Wonder Boy considering the beating he took last couple time from Tyrone W.
It is like Thompson's head is made out of cement-and yet, Petis reaches out and puts him dwn, Incredible I say!
So this fight I said No way can Petis beat Diaz ...and he did not.
The fights looked all honest and fair this time.
I thought TC would lose....in the beginning, looked like he was just being led dwn the road to too tired to fight back.
He did lose...
I always say too bad they all can't be winners as it is such hard work!
Either way congrats on your part.!

Very cool!

We have been rooting on Nate Diaz since he choked out that a hole Conner M. That said I am very worried about Nate's future. He takes a ton of head shots every fight and his confidence and bravado carry him forward. I don't see a 'bright' future for him in 5-10+ years. He is not educated and the folks around him are going for the bank $$ at his expense. Yep I get it...the fighters life, banking now while you can. Much love to Nate, and so many others active/retired in the fighting sports. I hope Nate gets another 1 or 2 big payouts for his family to be secure years from now.

I wish more fighters could hook up with decent promoters who see the short term and plan for the long. Our favorite is Urijah Faber, met him in Santa Barbara, such a great guy, walked away and has his own gym/business to carry him forward.

Faber returned to competition with the UFC in the middle of July and dispatched Ricky Simon by TKO in the first round - he's now talking about making a championship run.

Same here (except for the big mouths, such as Conor McGregor and that douchebag supreme, Colby Covington). Such a hardcore sport that takes supersized ballz (for the wimminz, too! :D) to compete in.

This. I wrestled in the "heavyweight" weight class (I weighed about 220) in college intramurals. I think my life flashed before my eyes on occasion I was so tired. :(

DavidI 08-20-2019 02:38 PM

Working this position, I have gotten to know quite a few of the fighters. Almost all of them are just solid, hard-working beasts with humble egos. Most of what you see during the interviews is for the cameras to put butts in seats. I am very fortunate and do my best to ensure the outcome of every fight is legit and fair. That being said, never leave a decision in the hands of the judges. They do a great job, but the fighter should end the fight!

Rock on!

afterburn 549 08-20-2019 02:49 PM

It was great to see McGregor get his ass whipped by N. Diaz !

The split decision is just that on the second one.
Further, Pettis got a humbling experience

I watched that event with friends in a large, packed sports bar in Dallas - fookin loud as hell during the Diaz 'v' McGregor fight, and the place went berserk when Diaz sank the choke in. Big fun!

afterburn 549 08-20-2019 05:36 PM

Tis funny-when big bad McGregor was put up against a real artist he flunked out rather badly.
I know the UFC operated with sales in mind.
He was a money dawg for them.
Like having Khabib go nuts in the ring after the fight , ..that had to be all in the script

PD41 08-20-2019 05:44 PM

Pretty cool job. I never see him but Anderson Silva lives down the street from me by Torrance Beach.

flipper35 08-21-2019 09:33 AM

The only time I wanted McGregor to win was when he fought the wife beating Mayweather.

On of the guys from the Muay Thai gym where my daughter and I train was on one of the fights on ESPN 5.

I get winded just doing the training, I can't imagine a 3 minute round with someone beating back.

When my Dad was in The Navy...stationed in Adak, Alaska....him and a buddy got talked into boxing each other. Neither had any training for this. As he tells the story....both of them walked into the ring and started throwing punches as fast as they could.....by the middle of the round neither could lift their arms.

Pretty cool David.
