1939 Porsche Type 64 Heads to Auction!

The first car to carry the Porsche name is heading to auction. Surprisingly, it's still in a very original state, with its original flat-4 air-cooled engine (32hp) along with spare tools and parts, which all will be included with the sale. Porsche expert Andy Prill said:

Quote:
I’ve seen countless special Porsches in my career, but nothing like this...This is the most historically significant of all Porsche cars and it is simply incredible to find the very first Porsche in this original condition.
Motor Authority has a great history lesson about the Type 64 here. Definitely give it a read if you'd like to know more that you may not have known already.

What do you think it'll go for? Share with us below.

From the link in the OP: "In 1997, ownership passed into the hands of fellow Austrian Thomas Gruber, one of the most respected Porsche specialists worldwide."

A favorite. I love the bodywork looks forward and suggests cars that even today share a similar profile.

Somewhere along the line, the 356 guys will be arguing about things that "aren't factory correct".

They had a chassis or body in the museum in Stuttgart when I was there a few months ago.

I love the styling.

It will be fun to find out what it ultimately sells for.

Could be 5 million, could be 10 million. Who knows what the people with the dough are thinking when it comes to objects like this.

There's one on ebay now for 28 bucks. I'd buy it but my collection is all 1/18 and the one offered is 1/43.

You would think Porsche would make that happen. I think they should.

This black one was at Rennsport last year.

My guess would be north of $20M.

There was one at an exhibition in Raleigh several years ago ', "Porsche: Speed By Design". Damn, I stood and looked at it for some time, seeing the lines of future Porsches, both the 356 and the 911. Most people just gave it a glance and moved into the heart of the exhibition to view cars they were more familiar with - 356,911,550,917,962, 959. There was a reason it was at the entrance to the exhibition.
Also had Janis' 356 which sold at auction for $1.3 million or something like that.
This car, maybe $5 mil?
