What's wrong with Concert Promoters these Days

Well, besides greed.

My sister and her kids went to a concert last night. This was their view for the show for regular priced 'unobstructed seats.

Beyond infuriating.

Like you said. Greed.

GA pit tickets cost double then regular seating....

The last show I saw that I enjoyed was a small venue in flagstaff in 2015. Sold out of course, but it was an experience.

“These days”?

When have concert promoters ever had a good reputation in the history of concert promotion?

Why wouldn't they look up their seats on the venue's website seating chart and know they were behind the stage? You can do this before committing to buy the tix. I always do it, keep a few windows open, one with a seating chart, the others with the buy sites.

I have ended up with seats like that twice long before the Internet. But I ended up down front by sneaking around and even once finding a 3rd row floor ticket stub on the ground in the men's room.

^^
I do the same before pressing the buy button. I also look on https://aviewfrommyseat.com/ for the seats that I am considering.

I asked the same question. Haven't heard back. I guess it was a silly assumption that an unobstructed view implied 'of the front of the stage.'

As long as they get idiots to cough up for tickets, and "service fees" and "convenience fees" and "print your ticket at home fees" they'll keep doing it

Took this in 1988 at the Spectrum. My seats were last row behind the stage, but I got upfront after about one song.

I think I know what’s wrong with them but that’s not the issue here

Look up seats before buying assigned seating tix

Also, Very rarely have I ever stayed in the seats I bought unless it’s the type of show where nobody stands up and boogies.....you gotta move around and find a good place to stand somewhere....people end up abandoning their seats...these are now yours...or strategically standing in aisles etc....

We always look at the venue seating chart before ordering any tickets. We have come to the conclusion that great seats can make an OK concert great, while bad seats make a great concert OK.

We spend the extra $$ to get the best seats available, or don't go.

Ted Nugent...1st row 3' from stage
Beach Boys...3rd row 15' from stage
Country concert...VIP estaing area surrounding the stage appendage
Foreigner/Cheap Trick/Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin...15 rows center
Pink Floyd...5th row center
Head East...3rd table back from stage in nightclub

I have learned from getting burned with lousy seats because I did not check the chart. Even back in the 70s they sold scheit seats to folks who failed to check their location first. Every venue has a few sweet spots so get to know them and buy tix early. At many shows I prefer to be near the sound desk but sometimes we can get really close in smaller venues.

Caveat emptor.

Those seats, by Ticketmasters definition, are 'Obstructed'. I would ask for a partial refund.

The Canadian Competition Tribunal just hit Ticketmaster with a $4 million fine and half a million in costs, for misleading pricing practises.

No 'concerts' for me... I come from a land of $15 general admission and $40 (gasp... $40 to see a concert!?!) for front row center.

Now you sit in the back of the venue and watch the performers on big screens, which makes me wonder why am I not at home watching a concert blueray on MY big screen in my big comfy chair?

If I want to see live music I will go to a club or bar where I can see what is going on... and support a local business instead of a greedy promoter.

Now get off my lawn!
