Recommend - Electric Fat Tire Bike
I wanna ride something like this:
![]() Many choices from $900 to $2,000. I want to include quality shifters, brakes and suspension. When I first retired, I would ride my Mountain bikes 1,200 miles/year. Now I live elsewhere, not so much. Locally, our trails are dirt or gravel. We have to contend with head winds, hills and snow. With an E bike, I'd pedal the 7 miles into town and have the E assist to help on the hills for the return. A lot of our old motorcycle trails have been closed by the urban tree huggers that like to tell us country folk how to recreate. An E-bike could sneak in. I've ridden a pedal Fat Tire bike in the snow and was amazed how well it did. Any one brand to research??

I will try to post pictures of my "Ebike build" that I did earlier this year. I started with a 29er MTB (not fat tire though), and rode it for a few hundred miles. https://www.amazon.ca/IRON-HORSE-Mens-Warrior-Mountain/dp/B00WSUVDTM
With a recent new pace maker, and other health issues, I needed a bit more oomph, so I ordered this 36V, 500W kit in the 700C variation, and installed it. This bike will run 28 mph flat out on throttle, and about 35 while pedaling, the 36 volt bottle battery I bought is only 7.3AH, but still propels the bike at reasonable speeds about 25 miles. ^^^ckelly78z. What a cool project.
I need to know more. Front or rear mount? Does the kit sense your pedal input? Any pictures? Battery is plug and play or is there more to it? What would you change if doing a second go-round? Thanks! |

My Farley says fatter is funner.
No idea on the E side of the bikes but tons of them appearing on the market. Go to your flbs and test ride. Never been on an ebike but I guess there are circumstances that make them attractive to certain users. |

It is a front mount kit, that has an 5 level PAS, with an 8 magnet pickup so it ensues the slightest pedal movement, or you can run it strictly on pedal power, or use the throttle for strictly electric. The front mount keeps all 24 rear speeds in place, and basically makes it 2 wheel drive. The battery is plug/play, and good for about 800 charges, but I've only charged it 5 times this Summer (I've been busy). If you want more distance, get a 15-20 AH battery, and more power needs higher wattage, or 48V. |

I added a more comfortable spring seat, and handlebar risers to not lean over as far. I liked this bike beacause it had dual disc brakes, and full suspension on tall 29" tires. With buying the bike, the kit, and the battery new, I still only have about $700 into all of it, and can be converted back easily, or upgraded. Last edited by ckelly78z; 08-21-2019 at 01:07 PM.. |

Hai Bike. They are made in Germany with a Bosch motor. Even if you don't buy a Hei Bike, try and get one with a Bosch or Yamaha motor. those two are considered best or most durable in the industry.
Someone loaned me their fat tire Hai Bike. I tell ya, this thing was FUUUN. I haven't done any mtb in a long time, and was never good at it. These E bikes make you a great climber and those fat tires roll over anything like a four wheel drive. Last edited by look 171; 08-21-2019 at 09:37 PM.. |

https://shop.m2sbikes.com/products/all-terrain-electric-fat-bike Look - Thanks for the info on the Hai bike....Looks great, but maybe looking for something in the $1,500 range........ Regarding the "skinny" comments......I always preferred a little meat on the bones and a good sized "top end".......

I have to wonder why Bob?
You have a stable of motorcycles so it doesn't seem to fit that need. And if you're looking for exercise wouldn't a non-electric bike be better? *Edit, re-read the OP and understand better the 'why' I like the new Yamaha, but not really what you're asking about ![]() ![]()

My second ebike was a result of mistakes made on first ebike.
Prior ebike was a 500W rear hub motor hardtail with battery on rear rack, (very porsche-like handling with all that weight on the rear wheel.) I knew that I wanted: mid-drive, full suspension and more than 500W power. The M2S Bikes Dual Sport Ultra is one of the most powerful full suspension electric bikes on the market. The motor: https://electrek.co/2019/01/17/bafang-ultra-electric-bicycle-motor/ The Bike: https://shop.m2sbikes.com/collections/xc-sport-electric-bike-series/products/dual-sport-ultra-750-watt-bafang-ultra-motor?variant=12419887923243 The Bafang Ultra motor = 911S Bosch or Yamaha motors = 912
